ISU shoots 27% from 3 and 29% overall in the 2nd half, but yeah that's definitely Prohm's fault. Prohm's coaching didn't lose us this one, WVU just is a much better team than us and had some help from the backboard a few times.

What about the decision to call time-out after a made bucket and then put us back into a zone that had gotten destroyed a possession earlier. You certainly have to make shots but I'm not sure if Iowa State has the capacity to let this guy "learn" how to coach in the Power 5.

I was able to watch only sporadically tonight, but I saw enough to say: Youch.

It reminded me a little of the Gonzaga game, with the 1st/2nd halves swapped. Details of each game were different, of course.

This team seems to work hard, plays well at times enough to compensate for its deficiencies, but just can't seem to get over the hump vs. high-quality teams.

I still don't get Prohm's timeout usage, but we were still not switching and giving up wide open shots when we played man to man right before we went to zone. Not to mention being terrible in the paint (outscored 34-18) and off turnovers (outscored 23-6) but yeah let's put all that on the coach.

Too many turnovers. Not enough rebounds. Don't even mention the banked in 3s. I thought our guys played so hard, but WV just gets away with so much. We looked completely gassed in the 2nd half. I personally hate the way WV plays, but it's working for them. It's forcing the refs to do their job, but they just won't call everything. Hilton magic is officially dormant. All the games, and especially the big games have lacked energy. Sure being down the duration of the game is part of that, but it has lacked from the pregame and tip. It's a shame those student seats are empty when there would be people willing to give good money to sit in them.

Can a Prohm supporter tell me something he does really well in regards to coaching? I feel like he's been ripped apart(fairly in most cases too) at basically every area and really want to hear what keeps people saying he's not a bad coach

Those people are still clinging to the 104-29 record at Murray State and that he just needs time. The secret is though that in all four years at Murray he had an NBA point guard and coached in the Ohio Valley. He got to the NCAA Tournament exactly once.

He isn't looking too good right now. I'm hoping that we aren't last in the Big 12 next season. I've heard a few people say that he has good players coming in. That's great. Now what can he do with the good players he has now?

The same question could be asked for all ISU coaches going back to Floyd.

I said this weeks ago and was thrown every dislike and disagree. The great thing is that guy that hired the likes of Mcdermott, Chizik, Rhoads, Prohm was given a 10 year extension.
To be fair Chiz and McDermott were both excellent hires at the time. Both were hot commodity coaches and JP was able to attract the to Iowa State. Sometimes things don't pan out.

Really poor second half. Just bad all around. They once again only seem to play good for half a game. Prohm's rotations are weird. Also the guards have to at least pass it down to the bigs every once in awhile. It makes ISU so easy to guard if all you do is pass it around the perimeter bc Morris Long and Thomas aren't slashers.

I just don't get the player rotations or what he is trying to do with them and the love for Babb. There is no reason Babb should be on the floor let alone being the PG. Then there is Young who may not me perfect but makes good things happen when he is on the floor. Its like he is held to a higher standard than the other players who keep making mistakes.

The players have to decided they want to play better. So many stupid mistakes out there.
Babb kept us in the game in the first half but go on...

He's shown strengths at hindsight/post game acknowledgement of missed adjustments/opportunities and relationships are important to him, although either the player-coach relationship isn't going smoothly if in fact he does have a plan for things, or it's going so well that it's like a marriage, and they're just tuning him out.

You're right but his job isn't evaluated based on if they were good hires at the time.
and I get that but it's also JP's job to go out there and the right hire and at that time those were both really strong hires. Obviously Chiz didn't want to be here. Mcdermott would have worked out of he would have adapted his style of play. Unfortunately he didn't do that until he moved to Omaha...

Open letter to Prohm:

Creepy lip-licking is not an acceptable substitute for mid-game coaching.

Bill Self does creepy lip-licking all the time.

I think he has taught the guys how to do good switches on defense.

Unfortunately, that has left guys open underneath.
