Lard gets legitimate fouls, but gets at least one ******** one every game. It’s too bad he can’t stay on the floor, cause we’re best when he’s out there.
Hard for me to figure out what’s wrong with him. But defensively, he is just not fundamentally sound. Seemed better last year. His mistakes are in his head and with his feet. He needs better position and playing the angles better. I love him contesting shots, but sometimes you got to let it go. I agree, he gets some bad calls, most players do, unfortunately part of the game. I feel like this whole season for him has been 2 steps forward and 1.75 steps back. He has physical skills. I hope he and the staff can get him up to potential in Feb. we are very good. With him at his potential we are top 10 - imo.

He CAN be a bit like a bull in a china shop, banging into players as he rotates to help. Hopefully, he'll continue to contribute and find ways to not end up with so many quick fouls. I'm sure the coaches are showing him video of his angles etc. I totally agree about his feet on the defensive end. Man, he can be such a game-changer though.

I don’t know if he did it last year, but he keeps his off hand on the defender a lot, almost like he’s bracing on them for when he tries to block, and it seems like the refs are calling that every time.

Some feel some players looked better last year than they actually were because of how ****** the roster was.

Lard is just a self-perpetuating foul machine right now.

I thinking knowing that he's not getting much run makes him go after everything and everybody.

I think they're a top 10 team now. With Lard at or near his potential, it's scary good.

Lard fouls:
One BS foul every game- that's on the refs.
Going hard after rebounds- I'm fine with that.
Fouls that keep guys from making point blank shots- Not terrible to make 'em earn it as long as it doesn't happen too often.
He rarely gives up And 1's (though he did have one last night).

The ones that seem totally avoidable and regretable are when he's playing on-ball post defense and has his arms at like a 20 degree angle and guys jump into them for a foul. If he'd just put his arms straight up he'd be fine.

If I was a ref... I would be so fricking sick of the awkward position WVU basketball constantly puts me in during their games and would eventually put my foot down, call all the fouls, and not enable their brand of foulball to continue. Their style is everything the NCAA is trying to remove from the game.

Also, let’s move the charge circle out another 3 feet. So many players are getting undercut at its current spot. And the ‘drawing’ the charge is the worst thing about basketball. It’s such a subjective call that has huge momuntem swings and is frequently incorrectly called.

as others have said, this is why they usually lose early in the NCAAs because they get refs that don't allow their "thugball" style. The same can be said for KU except that they get refs that don't allow Self to intimidate them :)

This is fun right now but I just want to get to the spot where it's pretty much guaranteed that ISU is 'in' and then really enjoy everything else after that.

We’re halfway through the conference season and battling for the conference championship. Barring a Fran McCaffery level monstrous melt down against a relatively friendly remaining schedule, we’re in the tournament.

Once Lard stops fouling so much the team will only get that much better. He is so impactful when he is on the court. He is so good offensively and is the best shot blocker on the team. even just the little time he was out there last night he made a huge difference.

Kind of what I'm saying. Make it official with 6-7 more conference wins and all else is gravy.

There's no team they can't beat but no team that is an automatic 'W' either.

They've done fine n the NCAAs and pretty sure they've played to their seed. Got bumped early once like everyone else but otherwise Sweet Sixteens the years they qualified. Made a Final Four in the Big East years.

Outside looking in, from a spectator/basketball fan standpoint, he just needs to go straight up when he's directly defending the ball. Those big, send it into the crowd blocks should be reserved for helping. Still, he gets two fouls a game that look pretty similar to what everyone else does (without getting called).
