Now that is some horrible defense no matter how you look at it folks. They would have scored 168 points on us if we had played defense like that all night.

That should tell you it was a hell of a lot more than bad D by ISU. Texas has played other defenses that were worse than ISU and haven't done that. A lot of that was just luck. Obviously the D is part of it, and failure to hit free throws, but you can't discount the fact Texas had an unbelievable streak to close the game. It reminded me a lot of the comeback of WV a few years back.

Thirty minutes of basketball beauty. Then a monumentally poor defensive effort! Wow. Glad for a Cyclone victory. A win is a win. It does help manage my expectations though that's for sure.

Texas totally abandoned their game plan on both offense and defense. Defending them inside is the right call , and when they're hoisting threes for 23', not much you can do. Those are the shots you want them to take. I was disappointed that we weren't blocking their path to the basket late. All in all, a much needed win against a very talented team.

Some of you guys are drama queens. Step back from the ledge for crying out loud. Texas played outside of their minds in the second half. We won the game. Go take sleeping pills and wake up tomorrow with a new perspective.

But not too many sleeping pills. If you know what I mean.

A team that averages 30% from the arc was chucking up long range 3's and they were going in. What are you suppose to do? When you defend Texas, your attention should be focused on the paint.
There was really only one "long range" 3pt shot during the comeback. Most of the rest came because the 3pt shooters were left wide open. Seems unwise to leave 3pt shooters open when that's precisely what the opponents want and need, yet that's what ISU did. And ISU wasn't doing that earlier in the game.

Anyone else notice Chris Allen seems to go into "heroball" mode every now and then, instead of playing Hoiball?

Would you be willing to go back and screen shot the looks that were "wide open"?

Coach Hoiberg is without question the best coach we have had in program history. The is no argument there. I found it really comical with the posters that were burning him at the stake after the Texas Tech loss. Come on people, we had a bad game against Texas Tech there is no doubt about it. But when you blame the coach for one bad loss it is really absurd.

I think a huge reason we weren't blocking their path to the basket was because guys on the outside weren't helping inside on the penetration. They were guarding the corner 3. It may have been an adjustment by the coaching staff that they should not have made considering the shooters Texas had in the corners.

What do I mean by heroball? Well I'm glad you asked:

I Think the biggest issue this team is having on offense is that we are no longer making extra passes. It has been awhile since i have seen the ball swing all the way around for the wide open 3 like other teams are doing to us. We continue to just focus on the mismatch and try to go 1 on 1 against it. Occasionally it is in the post and we dump it to the other post but beyond that we are just playing pick up gym hero ball.

I think this is rubbing off on the defense as well. They aren't playing together. I still don't understand double teaming crappy players just because, which is on the coach. It was one thing when we had less talent than the other team to double team, but we have more talent at every position and we still double team? doesn't make sense to me. And it is burning us every game.

The things above are what Chris Allen does, every time usually.
