I think fans deserve an explanation as to why Shildt got fired. “Philosophical differences” doesn’t do the fans any justice.

In reading stuff in the STL paper, it came down to the hitting approach. I dont know what Albert's system is specifically, but it appears to be the "modern approach" of fly balls and home runs. Shildt is much more traditional with hitting for average, getting guys on base, and playing small ball.

It's clear that Mo thinks that is where the future is headed. DeWitt backs Mo. So, Shildt was a goner when he didn't agree.

It seems to me that's just what they were doing on their long win streak: playing a lot of small ball. One reason maybe why Sosa took over at short. He was a shot of energy.
