Huge Blizzard. 2 inches of snow followed by 36 degree temps and sun. Great to make a crust on the snow so it doesnt blow. They got us all worred about nothing once again and allowed schools in the state to waste yet another day.

Come back here at about 8 pm and let us know how things are doing.

The blizzard will be mostly felt in the country areas, per usual. In town, not so much.

It's not like they get made up at the end of the year or anything.

Some do some dont. Some went of a half day so that doesnt have to be made up. Some went for an hour, so I'm not sure what happens there.

I see what you're getting at. In that case you're right. The only problem is it depends on where you are. Highway 117 wasn't too fun to drive on this afternoon.

If the kids are in school for any amount of time than the day is counted in full. At least that's what all the woman in my office have said today. I guess this has changed.

No, that's right. I think we should go to hours instead of days in school though.

From the look of things in Ames, it may not be too bad. The snow was really light when it was coming down, but temps are at or above freezing, so it is getting really wet out. By the time the wind picks up, there may not be that much loose snow to blow around. I'm going to err on the side of caution though, and duck out from work in the next half hour or so. Last thing I want to do is underestimate the weather.

I went to high school in Minnesota. They scheduled an additional 9 days a year for snow days. Problem is the road crews were do good I didn't have one snow day in my four years of high school. But I did get to go to school an extra 9 days a year. Dangit.

In Ames, if they serve the kids lunch then it basically counts as a school day. I remember one time last year they called school off early, it fell in the middle of the lunch periods so they adjusted them around so everyone got served and it counted as a school day.

Yep I seem to recall that as the rule when I was in school too. My favorite incidences that involved that rule was eating "lunch" at 10:30 ish a few times. My next favorite was the day we had a late start, another snow band pushed into the area, and then were let out early. 10:20-12:30(I had last shift lunch and was in high school so I left then anyways) in school.

I don't know what the hell is going on in Fort Dodge, but I'm just going to guess that they have completely given up on clearing the roads there. I saw essentially no clearing of the roads - even the main ones - 24 hours after the last snow fall. It was absolutely pathetic.

Jumbo I know what you mean. These past two years snow removal has been the worst I have ever seen. My wife works at the labs and they dont even plow the road leading down to them :)

I've been sitting in the Memphis airport for 3 hours and have 2 to go. I left DSM on the 11:05 so that I didn't get screwed by the blizzard for my 5:15 PM flight. I just checked and that flight isn't scheduled to go until 7:36 now so the weather must suck a bit back there. Looks like the forecast helped me not spend the night in DSM or MEM...

might want to be patient. I don't think anyone said it was going to start @ 2 in the afternoon...
