Re: The Reason We Lost

At least half of his rebounds were when Morris, Naz or DeAndre had to block him out after getting him on a switch.

Re: The Reason We Lost

We just plain don't have the energy that OU had. There were about six plays alone where a lazy pass turned into a turnover, or a ball hit a guy in the hands and he couldn't handle it. If there's two reasons for us losing today, it was energy on the boards and on the close outs on the shooters. Heild had like five 3's already but even then we were late getting there.

We lost for this reason: 14 Threes. hard to win any game when your opponent makes 14 threes. End of story.

I would counter also that we lost because we gave up too many open looks from behind the arc. Granted they were on, but our rotations and defense was terrible for 3/4ths of the game.

Re: The Reason We Lost

Boxing out is not always the name of the game when it comes to rebounding. Skilled rebounders often neutralize an opponent who tries to box them out. They apply more pressure to one side of the guy boxing them out which often allows them to get around the other side when the player trying to box out moves in the direction of pressure.

The greatest rebounder of all time, Dennis Rodman, did not achieve that distinction by boxing out. His rebounding skills were based on anticipation, quickness, and an uncanny ability to repeatedly keep the ball in play until he was in a position to secure the ball.

Our best rebounders get to the ball more often using techniques employed by Rodman rather than relying on strength and size to win a boxing out competition. We didn't try to box out any less today, we simply were not as effective as usual in terms of timing and getting after the ball.

Spangler is no Dennis Rodman. No reason he should be getting 7 offensive rebounds.

Re: The Reason We Lost

It's simple: box out. Ejim, Hogue, and Niang clearly don't know how to box out and it cost is the game. We made Spangler look like Dennis Rodmam today. The worst part, too, is we would usually sit there once they grabbed an offensive board and just let them score. If we had boxed out, that's a ten-fifteen point swing right there and the game is our. I hope Sadler and Hoiberg are preaching this to our forwards right now. Perry Ellis will eat us up on Monday if we don't fix this problem.
That and the fact that ISU played a weak non con and now we learn how good/bad we are. I'm afraid kansas by 10-15.

Thanks, troll. Head back to Hawkeye Nation.

Take heart Cyclone fans, this is only your first loss...there will be others, this is now league play. You have a good team and a good coach. You will win your share.

Re: The Reason We Lost

We lost because we shot poorly, turned it over more than usual, and our opponent shot the ball very well when given the looks. It happens. As a good team, teams are going to maximize the number of threes they take against us to increase their chances of winning. Sometimes it will work.

That said, our perimeter defense has been poor in a couple games. We gave up a ton of open looks today much like we did against Iowa. Some of that is game planning (we pack the lane against tall teams because, well, we're really not that tall), some of that is just not giving the effort to rotate over. The effort has to get better to minimize the number of open looks we give up.

Re: The Reason We Lost

contest threes, make threes, box out, and run more efficient plays with less than a minute left when trailing.

I thought it was more of the fact they hit 13s. Hard to win when the other team does that.

Having to dig out of a hole, several times, on the road was as big as anything.

A Kruger team with a cushion most of the game is difficult to beat, on average.

Everyone keep in mind, this is ISU's BEST start to the mens basketball program ever. The purpose if this thread is if you want to vent and blow off steam... Please do it here. Don't want the rest of the forum and other threads taken over by negativity. This team will be alright. Just try to stay level headed. But again lets please not start thread over thread of negativity and meltdowns.

Nobody is going to meltdown over the loss. Many expected this to happen. What I'm ****** about is that Kane might not play in a game that will go a long way to decide the conference championship.

OH NO WE ARE GOING TO LOSE OUT ZOMG WE SUCK!!!!

Just kidding I'm not too worried. Just one loss this late in the season is damn good, and as long as Kane isn't injured too badly we will be just fine.
