Dekkers berating Campbell on the sidelines said it all ...

I didn't see that, but it was pretty ******* inexcusable for them to not have a 4th down play with less than a minute ready to go. Either know that you're calling the timeout there, or have a play ready. The staff seemed entirely unprepared for that situation, which is just inexcusable. Really ******* terrible coaching at the end.

Didn't we do a sneak once and got it? (though also got a penalty making it irrelevant)
We did.

Also really pathetic is - so X is short of the sticks, OK - 4th and inches. What does literally EVERY player on our offense do!? They look to the sidelines with TOTAL confusion! In THAT major moment of the game, our offense had NO idea what the next call was going to be. The staff had NO idea what to do. So they spun for 10 seconds, everyone continuing to look nervous and confused, and finally we burn our last time out! Which OK fine, time out is fine I suppose. But in that timeout - our staff decides to KICK it! Our staff, after allowing everyone to have total confusion with the game on the line - finally calls time out, had a chance to digest the situation and correctly go for it on 4th down - instead decides to put their extremely rattled freshman kicker out there!

It’s beyond bizarre how chaotic and mishandled that entire situation was.

I dunno, it's such a tough decision, the two misses were banged off the upright, it's the kind of stuff that feels like bad luck more than anything. Hard spot to put your freshman kicker, but it's at a makeable distance.

Probably should have gone for it, but I don't think it's the wrong call to go for overtime there.
I agree. I mean, at some point Gilbert has to step up and do his job.

I think that CMC has tried to kind of protect him a bit so far by going for it on 4th down a lot when we've been in what's usually considered FG range.

Gilbert's supposed to have a good leg, is highly touted, and won the job in training camp. When his #'s called, he's got to step up and perform, plain and simple.

And yes, we can separately have the argument over whether we should've gone for it there.

I'm kind of torn either way. The O-line was atrocious today, so do you trust them there? And when we're down our best RB as well?

This was an awful loss though, with plenty of blame to go around (except for the D, they were great).

Quite possibly a season definer, but hopefully not and our season definer will be a big win later on.

What, once a loser always a loser?

Sure our expectations are high. The good and the bad come with the territory, right? Yes, CMC put us in the position to be disappointed in games like this.

And guess what.........we are.

Who cares what it was like in 1985 or under Jim Walden.

It was what......24 months ago we were in the CCG? I would like to think that wasn't an accident.

No one is calling for his dismissal. This just stunk today.
The further removed from that 2020 season we get, the more I wonder if our success was just due to stupid covid environment.

Losing Brock killed Dekkers some. Brock is a stellar blocker... Silas was useless in that regard.

Defense played an outstanding second half, only to be let down by the offense.

Dekkers has to learn how to throw the ball away, and also how to lead a receiver on a deep throw instead of throwing at or under them. Did that many times today.

It's been 6 years, Campbell. Get a new OL coach (and recruiter) and get a real, new ST coach. We're gonna lose a lot of games in the margins at this rate.
I'm not generally one to bash the coaches, but the lack of any run game has been there all year and that has to be on the coaches. Not just the play-calling but even more on the scheme of the offense and the preparation. If we're not going to run the ball, then we have to commit to an Air Raid. Obviously, Dekkers didn't have a great day, but he was put in a situation where it would be extremely difficult to be successful. We need new coaches on the offensive side of the ball.

Ha, we’re on the same page here. My goodness, it’s hard to fathom and FBS staffing being that unprepared and disjointed.

I was thinking something similar to this. How borderline embarrassing is it that Leipold is getting KU turned around in under 2 years, a program that was a complete and total trainwreck, dumpster fire et. all, and Campbell has yet to truly have a breakout season in 6+seasons? Kansas is catching and surpassing us.

Umm getting into a CCG and winning a Fiesta Bowl isn’t a breakout season at ISU? You are an idiot

They were makable kicks. It's his assignment on the team and if he can't do it, it needs to go to someone who can.

I would like to think it wasn't.

I know the TE's aren't what we use to have, but come on. How many throws went to TE's today?

We definitely benefitted from some things going our way that year. Getting covid out of the way early (according to some reports) while others were struggling with it didn't hurt.
