History has a way of repeating itself. Flash forward to 2002 and we are 5-1 to start the season with a close loss to Florida State on a very controversial call. We were ranked #9 in the nation with a heisman favorite at qb. Enter OU to dump on our parade and off we go to 6-6 and a beatdown on the smurf turf in Boise.

We were actually 7-1 when OU destroyed us. That was a monumental collapse. It wasn't like we had played some patsies to get 7-1, either. But, Stoops always had Mac's number and poured it on. That was the beginning of the end. Maybe that's when the curse started. ;-)

If your a cubs fan and an ISU fan, you might as well sign up for a liver transplant. All you can do is drink away the sorrow, and think of crappy "Sweet Caroline". That song is the worst football song ever, only at ISU would our program let that be played.

I'll preface this by saying that Iowa State athletic teams have torn my heart out and stomped all over it too many times to count in the last 29 years since I started following them. But I cannot count them as cursed, because we have had some awesome players, awesome coaches and a lot of really good times over the years. For every heartbreaking moment, there is a great one. I choose to remember the great ones.

I think the heartbreak moment: great one ratio is about 10:1

2005 Football season was the best example of the curse, imo. In 3 of the 4 losses we were absolutely jobbed by the officials on plays that would've broken the game for us. Baylor: Coleman broke the plane before he fumbled; Mizzou: Steve Paris's pick 6 that was ruled "down by conduct" (give me a ******* break. Worst. Call. Ever.); and Todd Blythe's td that was taken away against KU. The other loss, at NU was framed by a missed field goal and one of our top players not making a routine play, when Leaders (one of my all time favorite clones) drops a game winning interception in OT. All those go the other way, and we're undefeated going to the Big 12 title game and probably getting at best an at-large BCS bid, at worst, Cotton Bowl. You want evidence of a curse? There ya go...
