I watched a lot of Colorado’s game yesterday, will be curious to see if we can shut down their NAIA center. CU tried to get him the ball on every single possession yesterday. He dominated Northwestern College last year in the NAIA tournament
Lipsey will have full legs. He played only 16 min last night. That’s a positive.ISU has a quick turn around time (about 12 hours) between games. Colo had a bit longer to rest. Hope the boys can bring it 1 more time, then relax for a few days.
This has been a really good test for the team to see where they are and what they need to work on.
Awesome bracket to have the bottom two teams paired up while two of the top teams got paired up also.I knew this tourney was stacked but just looked at KenPom. As of today:
#1 Auburn
#9 Iowa State
#10 UCONN
#13 UNC
#27 Memphis
#35 Dayton
#42 Michigan State
#68 Colorado
7 of 8 in top 42 is crazy.
Especially since we haven’t force > 12 in either game - and we’ve given up 80+ points. We’re due for a good defensive game.Just looking at my Score app, and they have Colorado averaging 15 turnovers (345th in the country). I like that stat.
I get both sides of this argument but I'll lean with ISU doesn't play well at Boulder/altitude. Its hard for everyone to win there and ISU has historically struggled mightily in Boulder. I get it was 25 years ago but one of the 2000 regular season champs 2 conference losses was at Colorado. That's a really weird take in my opinion. We played at BYU last year and didn't have a great game, but outside of that I'm pretty sure we haven't even played any games at altitude with TJ as our coach. 1 game is not a trend.
If a scoreless tie is out of the question, I guess.Well, well. Might as well get another win.
I guess I don’t know about other teams that are at elevation. We have never played at Utah. We have only ever lost to BYU once last year. I guess my thought is maybe it’s partly just at Colorado that we struggle. You also have to factor large portions of time we just were not good on the road. So the only real opportunity you have to look is when we had Floyd and Eustachy. I just think people are making to much out of it.Typically I would agree with trying to reference things from way in the past, but Iowa State literally did struggle @ Colorado for decades. All coaches. All players. They all struggled in Boulder. We rarely won there.
Pardon my ignorance, but will all of these end up being Quad one wins/losses?I knew this tourney was stacked but just looked at KenPom. As of today:

Last time we played in Boulder was 2010 and it was Fred's first year. We won one game on the road the entire year (Iowa lol). Since then we've played in the state of Colorado once, which was in 2016 in the 1st and 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament in Denver. Won both games.I guess I don’t know about other teams that are at elevation. We have never played at Utah. We have only ever lost to BYU once last year. Correct. This is like the football games played earlier this year between new league foes. Games were scheduled previously and they don't count towards conference records.Correct me if I’m wrong but I assume this does not effect conference standings?
We’re only 20th in TO%!! After being #1 by a long shot for the last two years.
Funny fact: when Johnny Orr was coach, he was at a speaking engagement (Elks in Ames). He mentioned the fact that at that time, the Colorado basketball court had 5240 at each free throw line (facing the player), Johnny was not to worried, he said “his players were not smart enough to know what that meant”.I'm guessing your isu history doesn't go back very far. There were 40 years of playing at altitude before tj got here.
That isn't creative that's a long history of isu teams struggling with going to Boulder. Didn't matter who the coach was.
I hope you are right. Maybe conditioning will be the difference, but you can't train for altitude in iowa.
pets heads are falling offWe’re only 20th in TO%!! After being #1 by a long shot for the last two years.
And our Offensive Rating is higher than our Defensive Rating!
What is going on here?!?
