Probably was strange for the ISU staff but just as strange for his dad. He wants him to play for him but also wants what is best for his son. Exactly what that is can be tough to see when you are so close. Tough position to be in.
I'm going to reply to myself to just add this.

That dilemma was what McDermott was in when his son was being recruited. Some people point to him not recruiting his son as evidence he didn't know what he was doing. I'm sure he wanted Doug to play for him but he didn't recruit him to Iowa State because he could clearly see the writing on the wall - one way or another he wasn't going to be coaching at ISU for much longer. He did what was best for Doug and didn't recruit him.

I was thinking the same thing. I am sure that it is just as easy to get a big in the transfer market as it is to get a freshman so probably going after the best player available is the best strategy. I would imagine that they take one in the next class, possibly a JUCO.

Bigs usually take longer to develop, so getting them as a transfer or JuCo as Jr's and ready to play is a good strategy.
XF/GC will be manning that spot for the next couple of years hard to recruit a top flight center knowing that they likely have limited playing time. I also think Prohm ideally wants to play only one center and 4 wings, thus the priority on guards and forwards as his general strategy.

I agree that is probably his strategy for the way he wants to play. I just wish we would get another big or two in the development process on the team more frequently.

Counting on getting a good one in the transfer or JuCo market seems to be harder and harder to do and the chemistry only has one offseason to develop if we get one. I'd rather have a big in our system working with our players/coaches for a year or two than count on getting a high quality transfer the same year you need him.

Warm is 247 profiles, High is my opinion. Click any of the name links to see Warm teams, it's a link to their profile. High is usually guys we have been linked to recently (usually mentioned specifically by the recruit) or included in top lists that 247 doesn't update profiles (like the case of Tamar Bates).

Interesting revisionist history.

McDermott did recruit his own kid while still at ISU. As a walk-on. Which everyone thought was his appropriate level at the time.

Edit: Pretty much like Bowen Born at the time. Didn’t he wind up signing with UNI too?

It's not revisionist history. He said his son could walk on. That isn't recruiting him.

More Bates to UT smoke... I was a bit surprised to see ISU in his top group so not to surprising. Though Shaka getting a number or Prohm offers isn't a trend I like to see continue.

Texas landing good recruits that they’ll underachieve with was more so amusing when they were from Texas but this foray into the midwest has become annoying after it looks like 3 of our targets are gonna commit to them

What is their schollie situation? Gotta be running out of room soon.
We may have two open (Solomon and Coleman-Lands), we may have 6 open (transfers and NBA). I think we get 3 guys in the cycle and get transfers after.

If Prohm is somehow able to sign DeVries, might as well attempt to sign Peyton Sandfort as well to fill a frontcourt roster gap. Sandfort can really shoot it as well and while he is not a top shelf run/jump athlete, his smarts and length make up for that. TOE and Stanford are supposedly the current favorites for him.
