Lewis just needs a game where he hits his first three, gets on fire, hits several threes and gains the game level confidence he currently lacks.
I think Lewis would have been a perfect red shirt candidate. He will be fine though. Very Naz and Matt type freshman year. Btw I gave up on Matt and Naz after that year.
We only had three available players some nights. red shirt wasn't in the cards.
Everyone keeps referencing MT's freshmen year when talking about Lewis. MT was 44-131 and shot 33% and played valuable minutes on a tournament team. Lewis is 6-31 through 17 games and is playing on a squad that won't finish with a winning record. Maybe he makes the improvement, but Naz, Matt, Monte and Georges lived in the practice facility. Need to see some of the same commitment from some of these younger kids.
Also Naz was playing out of position his freshman year (PG) so take his first year with a grain of salt.
So far Lewis looks brutal on both ends.
It’s too early to give up on him, but if you can’t get some minutes as the year goes on for a team that will probably win 2-3 B12 games, it’s a little worrisome.
I think you'll see Lewis earn minutes moving forward. In the Baylor game he played over both Long and Talley. That was changed in the TCU game with him losing minutes to both. I think Prohm is still figuring out which one will be the first off the bench. Normally this would be decided by this point in the season but Talley and Long extended absence due to injury delayed that development.
Lewis defense is the issue at this point and thus frustration with Prohm right now. TL is thinking where he should reacting due to his inexperience leading to his player getting open shots. Terrence is athletic and his shot looks good once he grasps the defensive end he'll get the most minutes of the three by the end of the season - IMO . He's a freshman he'll improve.
Lewis needs work on his strength, defense, and his handle before he can be a major contributor for ISU. He seems like a good kid and his dad is a coach so I think he can improve. He just needs some time. It might not be until he is a junior that you really see him break out.
In the context of this season, he picked a nice game for this to happen. He played very well against Iowa. Hopefully he can have a few more of those games by the end of the season. I like his instincts, but he still looks a little overwhelmed.
I'll always appreciate a good game against the Hawks, but probably any P5 guard/wing will look good against them. Unfortunately we don't play anyone else that bad the rest of the way.
I would say probably 5 percent of this board thought Naz would ever be good at Iowa State after his freshman season. I would say 80 percent think Lewis has a good chance to be good. So we are getting better at putting faith into guys.
I would say there's a good 5% who would still say Naz wasn't good at Iowa State.
But Matt's freshman year our offense was so much more efficient.
