Chatfield really came through this game, great game for him. I really wish Heise and him could be consistent contributors. Heise was a black hole on offense again this game after a good performance on that side last game. Keep hoping the switch will flip with those two. Ceiling would be so much higher then. Jackson was up and down, some really good drives to the hoop early. I also am on the side of I would like to see Watson in some. You never know if he is a favorable match up in a game unless he gets some playing time. Milan looked rusty and hesitant in the first half but was back to form in the second.

You can tell TJ understands it's important to get Dishon going early to get him into the flow of the game offensively. He always scripts a play for him in the post the first couple times down the floor.

I just saw that! This is the same s****y Utah team that iowa beat. This kansas team has big problems. They aren't getting all the best players anymore and they are not mentally strong. F*** kansas!
Kansas isn't doing so well now that more teams match their talent level due to transfers. KU won a lot of games because they used to have more talent. Now with more teams matching their talent level, coaching is the distinguishing factor between teams. Can you imagine Mayo with his 3-pt shooting on our team? KU ended tied for 5th last year and it's where they are today. Otz > Self.

Rewatching the game, the first quarter we were really passing the ball, moving it from side to side, then we stopped and started to dribble more and that is when we went into the 4.5 minute of not making a field goal. They key to any offense is ball movement, when we get away from it, we struggle.

I see a lot of people mention the talent thing with Kansas. They didn’t win because of talent, they won’t because of Self building a team and a system, and the players fit into that scheme and played their role. Self basketball is cohesive and tough, on both sides of the ball. His last 2 squads are filled with players that don’t fit together at all. The overall level of “talent” isn’t all of a sudden worse (as they are still get consistently highly rated players from high school and the portal). They just are not meshing, and don’t look like the type it players that will ever mesh well. Self hates this team, and the one last year.

May I ask, what app are you using that has the full game replay?

I was watching one of their games a couple of weeks ago and the announcers pointed out that KU always have had players that suck around 3 or 4 years and those where the glue guys that knew the system and what Self wanted. KU teams the last few years just have not had enough of those guys and it they struggle without them.
In our game yesterday, they pointed out the importance of having Jones and Gilbert back for their 2nd season and not one and done. Players they thought really locked in that second year in the system. KU just has to many players trying to figure it out as they are playing.

Honestly, I liked KG standing up for himself and his teammates and barking at the ref. I don’t want to see it every game but once a season is alright.
Almost immediately after Gilbert’s technical, the same referee called a foul on a Cincinnati player at the top of the key for using an arm bar to restrict an ISU player. Prior to the technical, Cincinnati had been doing that the entire game without being called for a foul. The referees clearly called a much tighter game after the technical.

I recorded the game, so I could rewatch it.
I did too, but the first half was almost entirely missed because of the overtime game on ESPN2 prior :)

So my ‘DVR’ starts with just a couple minutes of the first half left

TJ chatted with them before they left the floor for halftime too.

The no call by the ref was bad but Gilbert deserved the T for how he reacted. He looked right at the ref in frustration and said something which is going to get you a T every time.
If I remember correctly, the official Padilla T'd up Jefferson for jawing and Keshon for barking about his no call. Did Padilla T up the Bearcats coach? It seemed to me the common denominator in the game within the game was Tony Padilla and his "flagrant" no call.

I DVR’d on Hulu and it is missing the first 15 minutes of game time. However, last night I went to the ESPN app on my Roku TV last night, then into the espn + section, on the on demand NCCAM Basketball games the ISU game was listed and it was the whole game.

Do not forget Heise's weak pass that set up the big "Poster" style dunk. However, as Curtis said during the post game presser conference when asked about turnovers, "We all have them."

I completely agree. Obviously Self's teams historically have often had several high-level recruits. But his absolute best teams have almost always been led by guys who developed a ton. Their 2022 national title team had senior Ochai Agbaji and junior Christian Braun as their two leading scorers. Both of them were 3-star recruits. Their 2018 final four team had seniors Devonte Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk as their leading scorers. They were a bit more heralded, but still not top recruits, and both developed a ton from freshman to senior.

Perhaps this KU team could have had the same thing with Harris and Adams, but both of them have been basically the exact same player each of the last three years.

Dickenson is not a good fit at Kansas.

I really think the word on ISU is to get physical with them, especially Gilbert. Teams will continue to try to bump and restrict our ball handlers, trying to create turnovers and bad possessions. If the referees allow this and don’t call fouls, the offense looks disjointed. I would like to see ISU to combat this by doing the same to the other teams. However, I am not sure the team is built this way.

I thought Chat shouldn't be playing but he's totally proved me wrong the last couple games
