Johnny was under contract for one more year. No way that the fanbase would have allowed Johnny to be fired. Johnny had one more year if he wished because he had a contract........unless you think Gene Smith would have fired him. Are you saying that Orr was given an ultimatum of resign or be fired?

Holy cow, really?

Gene Smith was absolutely wanting Johnny to go. He made no secret he wanted to hire a coach the year before the cupboard was completely bare. But he knew that he would never win a pr battle with Coach, so he had to let Johnny make his decision, but make no mistake Gene was very upfront with his wishes to move on.

Johnny wanted Hallihan to replace him, but that was never going to happen. I know that Stu Jackson was one of the interviews when he was at Wisconsin. But Gary Thompson loved Tim Floyd, and that was the hire to make at the time.

Hell Tim even turned the job down at first, because he would rather "bass fish than ice fish." Thompson made the emotional call, and Beverly Floyd, much to her ultimate chagrin, changed Tim's mind

I don't have any bad feelings towards Fred for heading to the NBA. He is a competitor and he wants to compete at the highest level. The WORST way I can think to look at it, is he "used" ISU to get 5 years of coaching experience. Well, in exchange ISU got some pretty darn good performance and a lot of positive exposure. So even in that lens, I can't harbor any resentment or anger.

I always thought he would go NBA, but I thought we would have him until his kids were all out of hs. So this is a lot sooner than expected. I wish he was staying of course.

One potential positive: by going NBA now, he could coach a few years and he might decide to come back. CFH again? AD Hoiberg? The Pitino career path. I'd welcome CFH back with open arms in 2022.

Really? He's a competitor? I thought so too until he quit on his team before they reached any of their goals together.

Uh, because Everest has earthquakes, is more dangerous, people get killed more often there.

Denali is in America - it's a climb for patriotic, red-blooded 'Mericans.

Just because you CAN climb Everest, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Thanks for the analogy though.
So your opinion of what Fred should do is more important than Fred's opinion of what he should do? I think it's hilarious when people try to act like they know what's best for Fred. He wants to chase after a dream so let him do what he wants to.

Let's put it this way, would you rather take a vacation in Sioux City or the Bahamas?

It most likely has nothing to do with JP or ISU. It has everything to do with Hoiberg wanting to be an NBA head coach. He's talked about that publicly, he structured his contract at ISU to make it clear to NBA teams he was not going to be costly to get, he has a rolodex full of NBA execs and coaches who have been telling him for years he is cut out for that job.

If he leaves ISU, I will feel bad for what might have been. But I am not going to try and lay blame for it anywhere other than where it belongs. If Hoiberg leaves, it will be because it is what he wants.

What I don't get is why he wants it. The NBA is a sloppy-*** brand of "basketball."

I wonder if Fred has seen this video, maybe it would change his mind and get him to stay here.

Right. Fred could quietly push JP right out the door with just a sentence or two to Leath or some key boosters. It wouldn't be any challenge when you're as big as Fred.

As of right now, Fred can not push anyone out the door.

I'm just wondering if we have the official official statement in the official thread on official statements? Otherwise, we have officially screwed up the official officialness of using the term, "official."

As of this post, just saw it on a crawl across the screen on ESPN "Bulls confident that Fred will except their offer"

Just how will CFH actually except any job offer from the Bulls franchise? I didn't anyone could except job offers unless there is more than one on the table.

Sorry, I couldn't resist teasing you about your grammar. The word you wanted was accept, not except.
