The best part about this weekend is Xavier and Memphis will both be huge resume building wins later in the year. I think both of those teams will be in the top 2 or 3 in their conferences and definitely tourney caliber teams.
I think Xavier would have beaten Memphis - Memphis appears to be highly ranked only because of their highly rated talent and not because of of them as a team.

With 2 min left in the game, a Memphis fan behind me taps me on the shoulder and asks if we made the Sweet 16 last year. After my laughter stopped, and I told him we won 2 games, he says, ‘2 games in the Tournament?”. After my laughter stopped again and I made it clear that it was 2 total and we have a new coach and players, his reply was, ‘How is that possible? They play so well together!”

Yes, Bates, Williams and Duren are legit pros and they looked solid in the VTech game. I'm hoping our D frustrated them and forced them into running plays from a set - which they seem to struggle; that was not a #9 ranked offense. Man, I'm so excited for this team; after the departures of Foster & Bolton, my expectations were abysmal.

Possibly, remember though, they just completely controlled a very good Virginia Tech team 2 days before. That game was never in doubt despite the score being close throughout.

I'm re-watching the game. I don't know if I've ever seen a highly ranked team so inept on offense. Part of that is our defense but I wonder if part of it is that Memphis is so over-rated. I looked at their scheduling and they have Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Wichita State in the next few weeks. We'll know a lot more about Memphis after that stretch.

Did you watch the Duke-Gonzaga game? Bolton looks like the same old player. A chucker who can put up points quickly but doesn't play a lick of defense and doesn't seem to want to run the offense.

Judging by last year I doubt either of them would have fit with what TJ is trying to implement here. I assume that's why Hinson left, he was told to play D or sit the bench.

I'm in disbelief myself and it is awesome to have the excitement back. It is pretty hard to only win 2-games, but after the departures in off season it seemed like the program was gonna have a hard climb for 1-2 more years.
Now, I'm amazed and so pumped - especially for once in a long time I see an offensive strategy:
+ we got a guys in motion w/o the ball.
+ there is ball reversal and perimeter rotation.
+ we have glimpses of feisty offensive rebounding.
+ we got a PG who plays like a 2nd B12 Junior!
...and we got defense! I had no hope in Sept, but now I gotta temper my enthusiasm from delusions. One thing for sure - this team ain't finishing last in B12 as every voter predicted!

Where did this swarming defense come from? Did TJ's SDSU and UNLV teams play like this? I don't remember UNI teams under Green playing like this?

Give me Hunter all day.

Last night was TOUGH with how they pressed him and his maturity was on full display as he kept working.

Another thing I love about what is going on here, and TJ even talked about it in his press conference after Hinson left, is everyone is given a role and expected to play within it. There seems to be a high degree of unselfishness right now and they look like they are having fun. I've honestly never seen Conditt this engaged in his 4 years here.

Hunter-floor General
Gabe and Brockington- shut down their guards on D and a green light to shoot on O
Conditt-Rim Protector, rebound and clean up garbage points inside
Enaruna- play solid D and slasher on O, shoot when you have a good shot but not the focal point of the offense
Grill- Hustle and green light to shoot 3s, ball handler in emergency situations, good at breaking press
Kunc-Junkyard dog, the player who does alot of little things well that get inside the other teams head
Tre- play 10-15 minutes, take care of the ball, focus on D, and take an open 3 when you get it
Jones- Spell Conditt for 10-15 minutes

I watched Bolton in the UT and UCLA games and he looked solid (he's had around 25-30 min per game and multiple double digs scores) - I had friends tweeting, "how/why did he get away".
I got no idea what happened last year, except what I read here - which I can't take credibly all the time, but it is becoming clear that Prohm had difficulty managing personality conflicts (Wiggs, Lard, Horton-Tucker and now Bolton). I agree with you, Otz has a system to implement and this team has bought in. If you told me in Sept we would start Conditt and Enaruna, I wouldda sunk my head in despair:), but Brockington, Gabe and Jaz have stepped up; Hunter is amazing beyond even the hype from summer and even Conditt is contributing with boards and shot blocks. so awesome.

Agree, addition by subtraction.
