I’ve seen the trend this season where we do that early and have success. Then, we completely abandon that and let the guards take over. It’s been working for the most part, but I just don’t understand why we don’t feed the post much in the second half.

I agree, I’m guessing some of depends on the defensive looks. If Jefferson or Jackson are 1 on 1 with minimal help it needs to be pounded in there. However we should have mismatches all over the floor offensively.

They have neither defended nor rebounded well this year, but this will be one of a handful of games where they do so tonight I can assure you.

Otherwise, they can score and they like to get up and down at a fast pace. Like typical Fran team.

I full expect them to play out their ass

Iowa is going to throw numerous zone looks at us this game and we need to capitalize on open threes but not fall in love with the them. Getting into the middle and dropping it off to our bigs for easy layups will lead to success. If we can knock down those threes though, they're going to have to pull out of their zone and if that happens, it's over because they will not be able to guard us one on one.

Jefferson and whoever Harding is guarding are going to be huge mismatches. I imagine they almost exclusively go zone.

Yep and defensively they're going to sag heavily off Jefferson and Lipsey. Would be huge if those two could both hit a wide open three because they're going to get numerous attempts.

The argument you can make for Iowa tonight is that they mirror BYU from last season who boat raced ISU in their building.
Iowa going unconscious shooting 3 is the argument but that is for any team being a 6.5 pt underdog.

This Iowa team has some good shooting guards but doesn't have the passing bigs or athleticism that BYU team had.

This ISU team is better than last years team when they played @BYU, with a variety of ways to adjust to what Iowa is trying to do.

In the end I can't see their guards being able to handle Tamin, Jones, and Gilbert drives and pressure defense. Weird things can happen playing in Carver as we've seen, but I just don't think EIU is up to the task to beat ISU tonight. The talent gap is just to large even if they are hot from 3. Very confident in ISU's chances of walking out of that wrestling gym with a W.

BYU was athletic with length out front and could defend (60th defensive efficiency by year's end on Pomeroy) and were a bad match up no matter where; ISU was fortunate to win that one in Hilton.

Iowa is around 80th now so it's a little closer but physically I don't see the same deal.

I think it's an 8 point or more win unless we play absolutely abysmal and that has not happened often under TJ.

I’m generally pretty nervous for this game. I feel good about this one. A lot different team than 2022. Looking for big games from The Presidents tonight.

I will say with Tamin limited offensively, we cannot afford Milan to disappear.
In the games that Milan has struggled, he's been guarded by a long and athletic wing who has been quicker and stronger. The Sandfort brothers will likely be guarding him.. Milan should be able to have a field day.

TJ has talked about how much better he is when he's active/moving on both ends (it's a general truth for basketball as it is so not surprising) so hopefully we see that tonight. Sandfort will be hot but hopefully gets tired from chasing.

If Iowa has a night where everyone's hitting from anywhere no matter what, tip the cap and move on.

I don't see any way they can guard the interior against us. Freeman is their best big and Jackson has an inch and 30 lbs on him. Then the rest of their bigs are much smaller. Also don't think they have anyone who can guard Keshon. Only concern I have is we seem to give up a lot of open 3s, maybe it's by design for bad shooters, but they have lots of good shooters. Sandforts, Harding, Dix are all solid.

Yeah their interior should have a tough time with our bigs and hopefully we can establish ourselves early like we did last year. That was the key to the early blowout, they couldn't rebound and we scored easily in the paint.
