Oh for sure.

But it also wouldnt be fair to say "the refs handed them 14 and we lost by 7, so we should have won". We brought it back to within range during semi-garbage time. With how things had gone the third quarter, if the game had been closer things may have gone differently in the 4th.

In the end this should have been the evenly matched battle that vegas predicted, but we were denied that by the refs.

We had the exact same discussions all the time in the lean CPR years. The truth was ISU just wasn’t good enough and I think that’s the case today too. Not by much, but I think Baylor is just a little further along than ISU.

They better play alot better than they did today and a couple weeks ago against Iowa. They'll be walking into a hornets nest next week with as much momentum as that program has right now.

They were sold out today against Duke so imagine what next week will be like. I'd argue it will be their biggest home game since the Mangino era.
I agree. I just think that our defense will be ready and KU won't have seen as physical of a defense as ours.

My two cents worth.

The defense looked slow. No one covering the drag routes and no one to go with the QB on the bootlegs. Our linebackers are not fast enough to cover sideline to sideline. Again there were many missed tackles. Our front three D linemen are not as good as they can’t get any push like past players. Need to bring pressure more, but need the speed to bring that pressure and I don’t see the speed. Baylor brought pressure many times.

Dekkers needs to work at his delivery. Many times they are thrown behind the receiver. We don’t have that set “one” RB that can take over a game. Brock can be if he works on his vision.

It was nice to see a couple other receivers step up other than X and get some nice catches.

ISU played three bad teams which set up a smokescreen of how good this team really is.

The one KSU game the calls were so bad at end of game and in that context seemed bad, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a game where one team was just handed 14 on total one sided utter nonsense right out of the gate.

I also saw Chiz/CPR era teams get 50+ dropped on them by Baylor and this is a loooooooong ways from that.

After review - I think this team is plenty good but there are a couple of things we just don't have right now.

A) Enough explosiveness on offense. Be it pass game or run game - we kinda got some in garbage time but before then...

B) Pass rush - we're decent against the run but not much pass rush

C) Turnovers. I know it didn't hurt us but Jirehl had the ball come out near the EZ and of course Dekkers needs to continue to mature and develop and protect the ball

I hear you, but I honestly struggle with blaming the refs with all the mistakes we make. Plenty of bad calls, but we need to put the game out of the official’s reach.
The refs poor performance had a significant impact on that game. They didn’t cause us to lose, but they clearly made it more difficult for us to win. Against a good team like Baylor that is difficult to overcome and we didn’t play well enough to do that.
