Well, with 10 teams, don't you kind of need to have byes? I guess the current format maybe keeps expenses down? Otherwise, you don't need to have byes for 16 teams.

Point is it's not like it's a new concept.

Imo saying to take byes out now is saying that's why ISU will get beat when it will come down to turnovers/patience, rebounding and running off the arc. Probably BYU not hitting shots late.

In looking at some bracketology, Palm has BYU as a 7-seed, Lunardi has them as a 5-seed. I really don't understand that, particularly since both of them have ISU as a 3-seed. I guess BYU is getting punished for their weak NC SOS? But Palm has Maryland as a 4-seed with a worse NC SOS than BYU. BYU is on an 8-game winning streak.

It is not a new concept, but it is now unnecessary for the Big 12. And I don't think it should be used as an excuse if ISU loses. However, I do think one reason for this format is probably to protect the top conference teams from an embarrassing loss and possibly hurting their NCAA tourney seed. Although, the Big 12 is still set up for that possibility today

Of the 17 turnovers yesterday, Milan had 6. That's very unusual. Maybe a result of handling the ball a little more? He's been more aggressive and willing to put the ball on the floor.
I think total TOs will be low today (10ish), unless neither Lipsey or Gilbert play. Rebounding will be much better than the game in Ames. But I doubt BYU turns it over 29 times.
Tough one to call. Full strength, Cyclones win comfortably. Minus Gilbert, tossup. Minus Gilbert and Lipsey, BYU moves on and ISU get a full week to rest. Kind of a win-win.

I am curious how many fans BYU brings. Will it be a Hilton South or will enough BYU (and hater KU) fans to make it anything close to neutral?

Thx Rulzzz!

Not sure what I think of this game. I think we take them if healthy. They are a good team and are a harder match up for us because of their 3 point shooting and they are currently very hot. But we are not healthy, again.

I'd be OK to rest Tamin (likely not happening) and rest Keshon as well. The Dance is the most important here. Get guys as healthy as possible.

I also know (or think I know) that TJ is going to try to win this thing (B12 Tourney). He usually doesn't go halfway.

Go Cyclones!!!
I agree. Having both healthy for the big dance is more important than playing another game in KC.

Yeah I said it in the overall bball thread that I miss smaller conferences. This format nationwide waters it down.

I think it seems to have taken some of the fun out of watching the smaller conference tourneys too; it feels like there hasn't been much coverage of them.

I DO think a team playing at night and then the next morning isn't fair and that unfairness is to the lower seeds.

They kind of have built in fans where ever there are members of the church I feel like.

Even at the BYU volleyball match in Ames they had quite a contingent.

One of the great things about...say the Big 8 tourney was that we were playing people for a 3rd time! Both teams knew their opponent...those 3rd games were great! Fans knew all the players in the entire tourney! Now...a team might be matched up against a school they are seeing for the 2nd time and the first matchup might have been 2 months ago. Just not the same feel to these tourneys with a large number of schools in the conference.

Cougars come back down to earth. They won't shoot as well or rebound as well as they did in the first clash. Sometimes a long span off isn't a good thing and will be rusty. I think they're overconfident and looking past us. Our guys want this one more, despite what injuries we might face, we're going to be dogs. Also I'm saying the court is going to mess with their eyes, dizzy shooters. o_O:D We got this!

with groin injuries, a week will not make much difference, but the rest is a good thing for the rest of the team. Groin injuries take time.
