I walked in to work today to a shared office computer with my co-worker still logged on. Took a screen shot of the desktop, applied it as the desktop, hid the icons, hid and moved the taskbar. Should be a good one.

Hopefully he figures it out because I don't want to get called at 3AM because he can't open up programs!

Anyone have a good office prank to play on a co-worker? Or just pranks in general?

The air horn under the chair is pretty funny if done right.

A co-worker of mine slept with another co-worker's wife. One of them didn't get the joke, though.

One of my co workers is a hok fan, so I often bring in things like posters, key ring schedules, etc. and leave them in his work space.

I see that as more of a public service than a prank though.

I have a buddy I work with who once moved another coworker's desk into the middle of a 100,000 sq. ft. room. He even got his phone and computer hooked up in there. This was many years before The Office's famous desk in the restroom prank.

    4 blocks from the Jack
ctrl, alt, + an arrow is great for a quick hit and run prank. Most people don't know about it.

years back, one of our computer parts suppliers always sent these cardstock samples of air fresheners with whatever we ordered. You'd rip open the cellophane and they were crazy strong.

One night we cracked open our LAN admins pc and put a few of them inside his pc. Those old gateway towers in the mid 90's had the fan on the board a bit away from the carcass, so we could fit several in there.

Joke was on us - his cube didn't contain the odor all that well.....

Had a co-worker who was terrified of rodents. Then word came around there were some mice in the building and they'd be placing some traps around. We put a fake rat in a real rat trap under her desk and squirted ketchup on it so it would look like fresh kill. She just about had a heart attack when she saw it, took several minutes to calm down. The scream was blood-curdling.

While we're on the subject of ketchup...Another co-worker had a dislike for condiments of all kinds. We filled her cube with ketchup packets. This person had no sense of humor and actually like freaked out about it.

There was an email attachment that went around a few years ago (before system admins started banning exe attachments) that would crank up your volume and a voice would yell HEY EVERYBODY I'M LOOKIN' AT PORN OVER HERE!

Lastly, I'm a vikings fan and my buddy in the cube next to me was a packer fan. One time he got up to run to the printer and I changed his screensaver to a vikings screensaver with audio and set up a password so he couldn't change it.

    Ah, good times, good times.

For Iowa fans I always keep a wav file of the ISU fight song on a flash drive. If they don't lock their computer before leaving their desk they come back listening to the ISU fight song whenever they get an email.

Water bottle with a plastic tube attached to the top of it. run the tube from a nearby cube and tape it to the underside of the desk pointed at the person. when they are on the phone (with a non-important person of course) squeeze the bottle! :) this has been done several times in our office. SUPER funny!!

Or if you have foam padded office chairs that are black, soak the seat with water and when they sit down....well...a trip to the bathroom might be in order!

it has settled down quite a bit but my office used to be pretty bad. changing backgrounds, swapping computers so all of there files are gone. covering a desk in stickers or sticky notes, even magnets. moving a persons desks. hiding items in there desk and files. blocking internet access to just one persons pc, a coworker left his Facebook open so someone checked him into a gay bar and liked a whole bunch of homosexual pages so his timeline was full of weird stuff. it took him a few days to clean it all up. and the list goes on. some days im not sure how we got any work done.

We had a guy at work buy a new car but not tag it for over 6 months.
Finally one of the guy used a California traffic ticket to create his own traffic ticket. Pink paper printed on both sides. Even put a state of Nebraska watermark in it.
Filled it out using carbon paper and left it under his windshield wiper.

When this guy left for the day he saw it and freaked because he knew he had been driving illegally for 6 months. He called the guy who made it as it's his boss and friend. He casually asked him if there was any sort of number to call to see what to do. He had added a sex line number on the ticket as the number to call for instructions on what to do.
The guy called it then called him back a few minutes later to cuss him out. He then proceeded to go home and hand it to his wife so she called the sex line also. He figured it was too good a prank to not share.

He has that ticket framed and hanging in his office.

I have a wireless mouse that I like to plug into the back of coworkers computers. I messed with one new guy for 2 weeks, before I told him what was going on.

Also, fart in their cubicle and walk away.

So a co worker was telling me about a time when this other guy came up to him and was telling him about how he had chili for lunch. He reiterated it a few times until it was evident in other means.

A few weeks later, I happened to be fairly pungent myself, and so I stopped to see the chili eater and told him how 'you should hear X talk about how you dropped one on him a few weeks ago, man he still talks about it." He started bragging about how funny it was and how you should have seen the look on his face, and all of a sudden, mid-sentence he just stops, eyes go wide, and he says "you sunuvabitch".

later I told the other guy what I did and said "we gotta stick together". Now just to mess with the chili guy, I'll just stop and stand right next to him for a little bit and he gets all nervous. Told him I gotta keep him on his toes.

When our company was super aggressive about cutting expenses, someone put a sign up on the bathroom doors saying that 'Due to budget cuts, please bring own toilet paper'. It caused so much panic it quickly had to be stopped.

A coworker who didnt lock their screen got a somewhat not nice email (it wasnt horrible but you would never send it if you wanted to stay there) sent to the CEO and we CC'd him in on it. We slightly modified the email address so it actually bounced back but if you delete the bounce back it looked like it worked.

Three great ones here (I can't claim all the credit though):

    1. Replaced all pictures of family on desk with printed out gifs of sheep. Subtle, yet so unsubtle. It actually took most of the day until he looked close enough to notice. You have to make sure the gifs are roughly the same color/hue/darkness as the original so your peripheral vision doesn't notice.

    2. Stuffed marshmallows everywhere in office - drawers, file cabinet, all over. Real hassle to clean up, and he still found a few years later when he moved to different office.

    3. If a guy is a hunt-and-peck typist -- physically switch a couple keys on the keyboard. Just pry them up with a pocket knife or similar. Hit the jackpot on this one, as we moved a key that was needed for his password, which is of course asterisked out and he couldn't see the problem. IT had to fix that one for him.
