Off Topic on Front Page?

I'm curious what people's thoughts would be about not having threads from the Off-Topic forum appear on the front page. This is a Cyclone athletics cite and much of the time half of the front page is devoted to stuff completely unrelated to ISU. I know some people don't like having the non-sports related stuff on here, to which the response is "don't click on it." It does make it harder to keep up on sports though if most of the front page is not devoted to it. So, I would propose that instead of making them not click on it, we just have those who do want to engage in off topic discussion make the one extra click to get to that forum. There could perhaps be a small blurb somewhere so that new people would know that that forum does not post to the front page. What does everyone think?

I say leave it as it is. Without OT discussions this board would be pretty slow some days. It isn't too tough to go and click on the forum you have a specific interest in from the tool bar on the left.

I kinda like it. There is nothing really much on topic during the summer...the off topic forums are the only ones getting action. That will all change in about 2 months when things start hopping again. Wow, it is only 3 months away!

I see your point and could be persuaded to be for such an exclusion during football/basketball seasons.

Yet as noted, it's dead in those arenas right now - hence the site is much slower. Off Topic is the topic right now.

I cant wait for late July and football practice to start, cause these offtopic-topics are pretty damn boring to me. If people wanna talk about em, go ahead, but i could care less about most of them. Maybe ill wander over to a Husker site to see if anyone got arrested. Or to a Hawgeye site to see how many 5* prospects they think theyll sign this year.

During FB and BB seasons that talk dominates anyways so any threads that aren't hot topics will just get overtaken. I say leave as is.

This thread is Off Topic so I basically would not have seen your question regarding off topic threads had it not been on the cover page.

How about we start a "beat a dead horse" forum? We could include all sorts of discussions about global warming, football team chaplains, and vitriolic political disagreements.

You guys do bring up a good point about it being the off season. I would also assume things will pick up again once football kicks off.

Awesome! That's almost as good as the "attention *****" photo! :yes4lo: (Hey, someone was going to bring it up, so it might as well have been me...)

Uh...one of the sites that has that photo doesn't like hotlinking.

I posted that image on a different site and on my end it looked like the regular photo (caching). For everyone else, it was a very grotesque photo involving #1 and #2.

Needless to say I edited that quickly and likely will avoid posting that image in the future - as well as being careful about others.

That discussion has been going on for all of 3 days...:rolleyes5cz: That must have been a very weak horse to die so quickly.

And once that phrase was issued....it took ISUFan22 all of 2 minutes to post the picture. Nice work sir, nice work.

Actually, this is at least the second go-round on the chaplain topic. It started with this thread back at the beginning of May. The current thread is largely a rehash of the same issues that were debated back at the beginning of the month.

I don't judge how "weak" or "strong" a horse is by its longevity -- it's the number of blows it takes that matters. Over 200 posts saying more or less the same thing (on one side or the other) sure sounds like beating a dead horse to me.

My bad, didn't see that other thread...

I stopped reading around post 100 when I gave my input and read a few replies...after that, you are right...it reverted back to previous discussions.

I like having it on the front page....I very rarely read stories that aren't on the front page...It's much easier just to cruise around the main page and see what stories are hot...
