All the people out there calling for bill to be let go and to bring in a new coach I can garrantee you we would have most if not all the current players we have now in the portal. No question about it. Look how many players from both men and womans programs that have coaching changes have all or most of there players hit the portal. So be careful what you wish for! I feel bill didn't start utilizing his talent he has until late in the year this year..too much messing with line ups and rotations to have the team get real chemistry. We were playing our best ball late in the year once we had a set rotation. Just think what we could have been if we had does this earlier and had another 6 or 8 weeks with the rotations we have been using? Team would have been quite a bit better than we ended up!

Well, then we could bring back Poppens and Welle! :D
Pop looks like she could still go…Welle would be in her 40’s wouldn’t she? I remember when I finally got to the point where I could no longer compete post college. It was a brutal awakening facing college athletes after I’d been out ten years. It sucked!

Yes. I had a career as a teacher. I remember for years my brothers coming home and talking about their big end of year bonuses. I always smiled and said I got two weeks off. One was a VP of one of the largest advertising firms in the country and the other a bigwig in corporate America. After all that…one left to become a minister and the other is now a professor. And I’d say that as a teacher of teachers, I influenced more lives and will continue to change the world in more ways than any corporate earner. I had job satisfaction in spades. That’s worth more than any amount of money.
That's completely different than being loyal to a college basketball team for a few years. The opportunity to start life with a few million in the bank is a no lose situation.

I think this would likely be true if Bill stepped down. If Bill stays, I think the next two years will likely look very similar to this year. Ideally Bill would stay and we make a significant improvement, but I have my doubts.

No really…there are some things in life like loyalty, liking the people you work with, loving your job…that are worth more than money.
Loyalty is everything to me honestly. Not so much when it comes to subjects like who you play college sports for though. It's a tough world nowadays. I don't fault anyone for wanting to use their talents when they are still physically able to do so to make quick cash. A lot of these guys won't make a dime playing the sport once college is over too. I saw where the Indiana center( I think it's him) was making close to 1 million from NIL yearly. He can make more money in 4 years than most with a degree can make in 30 or 40. To pass that up isn't being loyal to yourself.

I'd advise my kid to make as much money as he could. Loyalty in that world does nothing but make you poor. Would you do your job for 1/10th of the money you could make somewhere else?

I’d say loyalty doesn’t exist in college sports, so make the decision you feel most comfortable with.

Sad, but true. I sure like to have faith in humanity…and it gets harder every year.

I think fans of the women's program might be a little more keyed in to the loyalty thing, where Bill has been a part of it for most of my lifetime. But typically coaches move on much quicker. The money is getting bigger for WBB just like MBB. If your team doesn't win enough, there is a lot of chatter about how you suck. Joshua Jefferson dealt with some real crap from burners online based on what his mom tweeted after we lost a tough game. In CBB, you will perform as a player or there is a very good chance you'll be recruited over and gently or not so gently told to move on.

These are all things that maybe shouldn't happen, but I hate when people talk about what should and shouldn't happen. We live in the world as it is. And like Dan Hawkins said, this ain't intramurals brother, winning is the name of the game and it has been for a long time. We just let it hang out a lot more now.

Some money, yes. 3-5x more money? Maybe not.

I would bet 90% people on this board would consider and/or leave their current job if someone else tripled their salary. The idea that college basketball players, especially women’s players because they have no huge NBA payday, should be loyal to a jersey and sacrifice their own future life because we like watching them play for our team is beyond hypocritical. Or that we don’t want someone who values money playing for us is even dumber.

The goal should be for ISU to be semi-competitive in the market to not make this a no-brainer for someone to leave. But I wouldn’t blame any of them for leaving for a big payday. People should donate to WeWill if they want the best chance that these players play…not blame the players for leaving.

It would be interesting to see how much money these players have left when they graduate. I wonder how many end up like Angel Reese who was complaining about her WNBA salary not being enough because even with her endorsements she just couldn't live.

The problem with this whole deal is that I seriously doubt most of these kids have anyone advising them in any way about finances. It's a big problem with professional players who are older and probably at least a little smarter about things. I know when I was that age I wouldn't have made good decisions with that much cash. They need a union or something.

Finding unproven talent is what ISU does. Signing the superstars takes money. Retaining the superstars takes money. This year was not successful in new talent appraisal and acquisition.

This is relevant, but it's about as trashy for "journalism" as you can get. Sharing with the ads removed because SI doesn't deserve to earn anything from this.

Basically, they shared some tweets made by people who want Audi to transfer to their school and made an article out of it.

"And in the wake of Friday's loss, some fans on social media are asserting that now is the right time for Crooks to transfer so she can find success at another school."

We’ve already seen some schools in our conference build through paying athletes. TCU bought a conference title. OSU spent some of Pickens money to make a run by buying players. Seems money is the name of the game for many young athletes.
TCU’s title was based on prior relationships that their HC had with Prince, VanLith, etc. While NIL was involved to some extent, it wasn’t like their collective or a single booster bought the team as you suggest. Same with OK State.

Bill’s portal focus last year was far too focused on shooters and not on defense which remains the roster’s biggest liability.

Audi is an Iowa girl and I can't see her going any where else except to another Iowa school and UNI & Drake are not a way to a national championship and I don't see U of I in the picture.
