To those saying they'd take him over NN - you're looking too short sighted. Both would be starters for us after Monte leaves in a year and they would be a terrific guard combo. NN would likely be the true PG and NWG the 2-guard. Both can create and dish and would fill some huge holes we'll have once Monte leaves.
I like the thinking here, but he is a poor 3-point shooter, which makes it hard to give him big minutes at the 2-guard spot. Fred will have his work cut out for him to improve NWG's shot.

This seems like a very odd transfer to me.
He'll have to sit out a year and will then be a RS Junior. Draft Express already has him as a second round pick next year.
Why waste a year sitting out when you could potentially go to the NBA next year?

I'm all for it if he lands at ISU because I do think he's a huge talent. Just feels like sitting out a year is a huge waste.

Might as well just put him on a D-League team right now. Sit out, work on your game, come back for a one and done RS Junior year and hope your stock rises. Same thing as staying 4 years at UW.

I read somewhere that he doesn't possess elite athleticism and is a poor 3-point shooter. So even with the NBA potential, he might already recognize he needs a couple more years to work on his game before the NBA. Maybe he doesn't see himself developing adequately at Washington.

I agree with you Jeremy. You take both...in a heartbeat...if the opportunity presents itself.

Depends on who is on the floor at the 3 and 4;)

But I think the question on everybody's mind is: would he have to sit our a year?

Where does that leave Hallice Cooke and Matt Thomas?

Things were headed downhill for him at Washington so he wants a change of scenery. Why not transfer and improve yourself into the first round?

Sure you may "waste a year" but that year could get you into the first round where you have a guaranteed contract, unlike the second round.

Good points, but we're talking about a McD's AA here. As we just saw in the Final Four, there's no substitute for elite talent. I think we need to start landing elite talent if we want to get to the promised land. Additionally, there's the perception of a McD's AA selecting ISU. Not the same effect as a commitment out of high school, but it's there never the less.

Actually, his 3-pt % over the last part of the season (last 50+ shots) was over 40%.

I like how Blum came in here and dropped some knowledge on us all. Knowledge that we already knew.

Thanks Brent... You're the best.

I love how people constantly say we should skip top-shelf talent (i.e. NN AND NWG) just because we might have a starter in Cooke or Thomas already on the bench. We MIGHT have starters, but last I checked we need more than just 5 players to fill out a solid bench and role players are just as important as starters for a team like ISU. I would take NWG over Cooke and Thomas, just as I'd take NN over both of them. Doesn't mean I don't want all 4 on our roster and they couldn't all get minutes.
