once they verbally commit whats the reason for keeping the info a secret? it nice to say you are the first source but after that source becomes the first source why is it necessary to keep the info only on that site. and whats the point of keeping it a secret for as long as it normally takes? I know i probably sound impatient but i am just curious about the proceedures
A "verbal commit" is just a kid making up his mind where to go. There's no saying he won't change his mind. it's not a formal decision. It's not a binding decision. It's just something the recruiting people do to "organize" kids before signing day.
On top of that, the school cannot discuss the kids they are recruiting, so the premium services have to track down who is being recruited by who by talking to high school coaches, the kids themselves, other scouting guys etc. It's a lot of work. Basically, these services are "intelligence gatherers", and members of the sites are paying for that intelligence. Eventually someone who gets paid by an outside source (a newspaper reporter, paid recruiting expert for a major network etc) will pick up on it and report it, and then it makes it out to the rest of the world.
Once signing day hits, there is a binding decision on behalf of the kids, and it's public knowledge who that school has on scholarship for the next year.
While all the "commitment" stuff is great, none of it matters at all until signing day.
