Hello Cyclones!

So how do you feel about the new helmet and uniforms?

Also, if anyone has seen a Riddell Pocket Pro of it, please let me know ... I collect them!

I'll try to pop in from time to time, I'm a Jayhawk, but I have a great love for Iowa State!

I drove up for VEISHA a couple of times, I spent a lot of time partying up there in the mid-Nineties, and I also hold a dubious record, but more on that later ...

Talk to you all soon!

I think most of the people around here really like the new unis...I am personally a huge fan.

I was going to ask if your name came from how long it took you to get a degree from KU, but then realized you didn't seem like too bad a guy, so welcome!

I will never make fun of how long it took someone to get their degree. I didn't get mine until a month after my 30th birthday:eek:

The new unis are still growing on me. I'm sure I'll warm up to them more once the season starts and I can see about 130 of them standing in the same area.

Welcome aboard sevenyearhawk, hope you visit often. A word of warning here, the word hawk is in your screen name and that is poison on this site. Most will assume you are an Iowa Hawkeye and you see, we have a Hatfield and McCoys thing going on with them that it is not about to end anytime soon.

I like our new unis just fine, I hope we play as well as we look. According to press reports, Todd Reesing was not very sharp during your spring game but Chase Daniel was something like 22 of 28.

I think the helmet would be better if they outlined the logo with a little white. It would have made the logo stand out more.

I dig the new unis but I am not yet sold on the helmets. I hope my opinion changes when I finally see them in action.

Is it really still 4 months away? Argghh...

Edit: I have some KU grads in my extended family. They're OK people. Except for the guy who told me, "Thanks for losing to us in 2005. We went to a bowl game." I wanted to punch him in the face, but it was at a wedding.

thanks all!

that "hawk" thing dawned on me later, but this is the same login I have everywhere, if you're ever bored, you should Google it ...

Seven years is the amount of time it took me to graduate, I was at KU from 1993 to 2000

I changed my major four times, and only went to school part-time the last couple of years.

I really had three college careers: marching band for a couple, in a fraternity (which is how I wound up partying in Ames) and then I worked for the student newspaper's Website.

***

I liked seeing Cy on the side of your helmets, the new look is going to take a while for me.

I'll try to check in from time to time ...

***

As for winning against Iowa State in OT to go to a bowl, I had a friend, now deceased, who met that kicker's parents before that game at the stadium, he mentioned to them how bad he (and many others) felt for that kid when Iowa State lost to Mizzou the year before.

Sorry to bring up bad, old memories, but realize that I, and that guy, who dated a Cyclone gal, have much fondness for
your school.

Best of luck to your team as it prepares this summer!!

About Todd Reesing's performance in the Spring Game, it didn't help that the starting center, Ryan Cantrell, is out because he's healing from surgery.

I think they'll do pretty well next year ...

I don't blame KU for winning that game. There are plenty of reasons we lost. KU deserved to win and we deserved to lose for the way we played. I just don't like that it happened.

At least KU won their bowl game, correct? Might as well get something good out of it.

I wish that they would have added a little bit of white to the uniforms and helmet. Just as an outline on the numbers, letters, stipes and helmet logo. Just that would have differentiated them from USC. They'll look very similar to USC now with the same colors, Cardinal helmet, grey facemask...just different stripes on the shoulders.

I know that these will look like USC but people need to remember they are modeled off of or our peach bowl year uniforms. And I wouldn't have it any other way, our school colors are cardinal and gold and I don't need any other color.

I don't mind the new unis but I use every chance I get to advocate for the 1976 unis (the ones we beat the hawkeyes in this past season) because we were truly good and truly repected then. The last time ISU beat Nebraska in Lincoln was in them and the renewal of the iowa/ISU series was in them. The gold helmet with the cardinal "I" kicks @$$ IMO.

I like the new uniforms, have reservations about the helmets though. It is good to see someone who is willing to cheer on another school. I used to cheer for Iowa (except when ISU played), until I realized that every time I cheered for their team they cursed ours. God bless you Sevenyearhawk, and I hope that a crazy Cyclone fan never turns you against us.

Guess I disagree. I don't look at white as a competing color. I mean, they will probably have white socks. Just a little white would differentiate us from USC while staying true to school colors. Its not like it is blue. At the very least, we don't need the grey USC facemask, do we?

I like the new uniforms and logo, but prefer the "ISU-I" helmet from the throwback game. Having said that, the new helmet is a great improvement over the old.

I do too, I mean - at least I hope they do. I enjoyed the KU football story last year and they were certainly fun to watch. And I still think KU was the better team in the Big 12 last season, they just "choked" in that first half against Mizzu.

I'm fairly certain the players will be wearing white shoes. I think these uni's have a good balance of old-school and futuristic.

thanks jaretac

there is absolutely nothing that could turn me against Iowa State!

I was actually all set to begin the process of applying for a transfer from KU when ...

I met my wife, so that kinda made me stay put!

That would have been about a decade ago.

My story is this:

I joined a fraternity at KU in my third year of college, somewhere along the way I decided to take a roadtrip to visit the nearest chapter, which happened to be at Iowa State.

I had a great time hanging out with those guys, so much that for one semester, I used to leave Lawrence on the weekends to drive up to Ames to party!

that's when I began to consider a transfer, I liked those guys, loved the campus, and was interested in the school programs ...

Sadly, their chapter is no longer there on campus ... but I have lots of good memories and still talk to them regularly.

in fact, one of them was the first to send me a text congratulating me when KU won the NCAA title!

As I mentioned earlier, a very good friend of mine (and KU fraternity Brother) used to date a Cyclone gal ... she also happened to be in the same sorority as my wife at KU.

When he passed away, his family asked me to locate her (I had their common alumnae network) and give her the bad news.

So as you may gather, Iowa State is very significant to me ...

And I hate Iowa simply because they are in the Big Ten!
