Just went and tried the new Tedesco's Steakhouse last night on Douglass just east of Merle Hay, used to be Silvestrini's Pizza.

First impressions, looks like a dressed up pizza place, cheap tables and chairs, too bright, nice looking lounge.

Menu, nice selection of steaks, seafood, pork dishes and italian. Would be nice if they had a cheaper-large portion steak. At first glance, a little pricey for the neighborhood and decor. No beer on tap, selection of around 12 bottled beers, thin wine selection.

I ordered the special for the day, a horseradisch crusted sirloin with garlic mashed potatos and asparagus ($22). Wife had the chicken de burgo ($13). We also had the spinich artichoke dip (we get it evrywhere) and the entrees came with a salad.

When the dishes came out I was amazed. The presentation is what you would expect of a much nicer place. I had seen some other dishes come out for others so I had an idea it would look pretty nice. My steak was cut in half and stacked on top of the potatoes with the asparagus around the plate. The steak was amazing! The horseradish was a nice touch especially mixed in with the taters. My wifes chicken was very good too, very tender. The dip was ok, could have used a little more garlic, served with a few pieces of some kind of toast, needed more toast though. The salads were ok, homemade croutons were great though.

***edit - out particular server was pretty bad, but obviously new and inexpereinced. Forgot our water, never brought bread, and some other minor mishaps but the rest of the wait staff looked to be very professional.

Overall, I will definately be back. They may have to lower the prices a bit for the neighborhood but there was alot of walk in traffic. I will give it :yes::yes::yes::skeptical: out of a possible 5:yes:.

Thanks for the review. We'll be checking that place out.

Anyone been to Centro, downtown? I'd love to hear a review on that.

Lucca, in the East Village is nice. Pricey, but nice. Had live Jazz the night we were there. Not too loud though.

I've been to Centro several times, but it's been a while. Everytime but once, I've been pleased. It's a nice restaurant, but not exactly "upscale". Prices are a bit high, but not too bad.

The only bad night was late Sunday evening and the place was dead - so we probably caught them kinda closing things down.

Sorry can't give you too much of a rundown, it's been over a year. But I did like the place.

Wife and I went to Splash last night. Pricey, but very nice. We had a couple of those Des Moines Deals half price coupons that we needed to use. I got the surf & turf and she got a red snapper dish. 3 glasses of wine and 3 desserts for about $145 (got two extra desserts to round out the coupons) Service was excellent as was the food.

Centro is very good. Trostel Dish is terrific too...very NYC'ish atmosphere.

Can't go wrong with either.

One more thing...Noodle Zoo is a great place for lunch or catering. One in the East village and one out west.

Second Noodle Zoo - love that place. Never been to the westside on, but the East Village one is great.

Sbracco's downtown is very good. Same for Alba's in East Village. Great food and atmosphere. Love Centro, been there 4 times, all great experiences. From my experience working in restaurants and bars, you probably don't want to try eating at them near closing time. You roll the dice, but usually everybody wants to just be off work. You will usually not get what you pay for.

Centro is generally really good. Sometimes a bit pricey for what you get, but it's not a rip off by any means.

Every time I've been there the service has been good, the food has been excellent and the atmosphere has been very nice as well.

Tedesco's Steakhouse is a great restaurant!! I have been there many times and I will be going many times in the future.

Check out this link to get a gift certificate for $25 for $50 to use at Tedesco's... ABC5: Double Dollar Deals - Tedesco Steak House

Tedesco is a family name and they only own one restaurant for now.

I would highly recommend to anyone going to eat there, for sure..:notworthy:
