The winter scenes of the movie were filmed on Breckenridge Mountain in Colorado. I was working at the Village Resort at the time and the production crew along with Quaid was staying there. Randy was sick with altitude sickness the entire 10 days he was there. The Wal Mart shown is the one in Frisco. They lighted up the mountain for the filming of the sledding scene.

I tried out for an extra but wasn't lucky enough to get called. My cinematic career was over before it got started.

I'll always have a soft spot in the head for that movie.

I didn't know that! That's awesome, I love the movie even more now!

The extras tryouts were humorous. All the hillibillies from the other side of the pass showed up with their kids dressed up in their Sunday best or matching outfits, a few were even wearing top hats. It was as if they were trying out for America's Got Talent. The parents were bragging about their kids' skills like piano playing, tap dancing, etc. to the casting crew, who merely wanted to snap Polaroids and get the heck out of there.

(Yes, there are hillbillies in Colorado. Or maybe mountainbillies?)

Has Christmas Vacation surpassed the original Vacation (Wallyworld) movie in popularity? It seems like maybe it has. I love both of them! European and Vegas not so much.

HA! I've stopped at the Wal Mart to stock up several times before hitting the slopes. Good to know.

I have seen Christmas about 15 times since I last watched the original, but CV is one of my top 10 movies so take that for what its worth.
