We got a thing through work where you can get Office 2007 for $20 although I'm not sure if it's the Basic or Ultimate version of it.

You guys just need to use Open Office and Thunderbird for email. It's free.

I have tried and tried and tried to like it. I just cant. That kind of stuff always feels like generic homemade crap. As much as I dont want to like Microsoft, they make very good, easy to use products. Being in my field, I get the stuff for free, so maybe I have a bias there.

True

If I could get Office 2007 for $50 and it included everything i would probably get it just to make work easier (my company is still on office 2003)

Office 2003 was very solid. I always suggest Openoffice to friends who just dont have the cash to buy MS office. It is very expensive in group environments unless you have some sort of non-profit or educational discount.

The Ultimate seems to have Outlook along with an additional program (Business something or other -- I can't remember because my wife interrupted me and at my age the short term memory is extremely short).

Any software only costs from 5-10$ at the U of Minnesota for students. Supposedly through some mutual agreement. Or so my brother tells me.
