Alan Lazard always is refing AAU basketball games for extra money. He has done several of my daughters games. Half the people don't know who he is. So if he makes a bad call, I still can't yell at the ref. It would be sac religious of me. I hate it. I want to tell him it was a bad call but it's Allan Lazard and I don't want to make him feel bad or dislike me.

BTW Mike Williams the old Hawkeye point guard also does a ton of games and is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Great ref, and handles bad parents very well.

Bo Williams showed up at an Ag Business Social and started DJing and riding the stripper pole in the basement. It was awesome.

I gave Matt Thomas and Abdel Nader a ride to campustown once, only cause Matt was trying insanely hard to hook up with a girl I knew and she asked me for it haha but I have some good stories of bball players at parties. Probably best to keep them off of here though haha. One I will say, however, is my sophomore year I was at a party on 8:01 day and saw Percy Gibson beer-bong a full bong of Peach Schnapps. Never been more disgusted/impressed in my life. Never saw much of the football team, however.

Had a business writing class during the summer of 2012. Class was situated with 2 people at a table, and thisn one class day we had to free time for a project within class. My partner and myself started talking about the upcoming FB season, and he decided to mouth off and say while he was happy about the OkSt win, he was disappointed that it led to the LSU/Alabama championship. Said out loud that he almost wished the team didn't win.

Too bad he said it loud enough for the table in front of us, which sat Shontrelle Johnson and Kirby Van Der Kamp.

Kirby looked back, but didn't say anything, but looked annoyed. Shontrelle asked him why he felt that way, and my partner told him. Then Shontrelle said loudly, "Well, I'm glad that we won that game!", and turned back around.

I didn't have the heart to tell my partner who they were, as I don't think he ever learned.

As an aside, my future wife was complimented by Chris Babb and Royce White at Mickey's for her mastery of tequila shot-taking.

Here is my quick sotry. I was at the Tim Floyd basketball camp, summer of 1998 when I was 13. My coach was Marcus Fizer (coming off his All-Big 12 Freshman year). Fizer also had to be the supervisor on our dorm floor in Friley that week, which wasn't the best of ideas. My roommate Kyle had brought a Sam's Club-sized box of Famous Amos cookies for the week. Fizer is introducing himself to all of the rooms and he peeks in our room and sees this box of cookies, "Them some Famous Amos?" he asked. We nodded. "Hold on, I'll be right back."

Fizer left the room and returned three minutes later with a VHS tape in his hand. "Give me that box of cookies and I will trade you this tape to watch," Fizer said. I was all of about 5 feet and 100 pounds at the time and my roommate was not much bigger. We couldn't refute this giant of a man, so we obliged. Fizer grabbed the box of cookies and handed us the tape, "Bring that back when you are done with it," Fizer said. We put the tape in and it was the season highlights from the 1997-1998 season--it lasted 5 minutes. The most memorable highlight of that forgettable year was a Paris Corner half-court shot.

I went to return the tape a half hour later. I knocked on the door and walked in to see Fizer talking on a dorm phone with his shirt off, a mess of Famous Amos wrappers on the floor, and a 50 pound barbell in his hand. He nodded without saying a word when we put the tape back on his TV. That was the extent of the interaction I had with him all week.

Bottom line: Marcus Fizer is a big fan of Famous Amos cookies.

That sounds like a comedy sketch that only Iowa State fans would enjoy, I love it.

I had a Physics lab my sophomore year with a cheerleader at Iowa State. Obviously, I thought she was incredibly good looking and made me actually attend that lab instead of skipping it and praying during my final.

Fast forward to senior day at Jack Trice: Jerome Tiller is announced, he hugs Coach Rhoads then runs to midfield. Waiting for him? My good looking Physics lab partner...

They have a kid together and I think are married so whatever... I wish them the best I guess :(

I was at Middle of the Map Fest in Kansas City ~2012 in line for the pisser at Riot Room, and the super tall dude in front of me had a LeMars shirt of some kind. I asked if he was from LeMars, IA. He said no, but he went to Iowa State for engineering. I said oh me too, cool. He introduced himself as Paul (Shirley), and we took a piss next to each other. I started following ISU athletics ~2003 the winter before I started my freshman year so it took a while for it to sink in.

My wife excitedly asked me "Did you see him!?" after I came out of a bathroom at Denver Airport. I did not notice "him". Apparently Fred had come out a few steps ahead of me.

So yeah, I'm the guy that obliviously runs into Cyclone athletic celebrities in the bathroom.

I was going to the Jordan Creek mall one Sunday a few years back. We'd just beaten Baylor the night before. I'm headed for the entrance and out comes Georges and Naz with their entourage of girls. I said,"Good game last night fellas." They both waved and Georges says,"Thank you, Brother."

I went in to AJ's Liqours out in West Ames when my wife (then GF) was still in school to pick up some beers. Had a nice lil chat with Chris Babb over our enjoyment of Summer Shandys.

Also watched Scotty Thug Lyfe try to follow girls into the girls bathroom at Cy's and then he told me all about how he was going to go play ball in Europe.

Backed my car into Clint Varley’s (reserve for ISU basketball in early 2000’s) car in the parking lot of Kum & Go on Welch and he and Jamaal Tinsley got out out and we talked everything through.

Anyone who rented from Jensen Property Management when Clint Varley was there probably has some good Varley Stories.
