Now see that wouldn't be very liberal of us. After all, aren't we all liberals here :)

Come on girls and guys. I really enjoy the readings on this site. Oftern controversial, often hype. But I do enjoy the site.

Let's be realistic about sources, comments, moderators and posters. Initially we all policed ourselves in support of Jeremy....now we have been bashing one and all.

Go Cyclones!!

One of the reasons threads are closed, and pretty much the only reason, are because they take a turn towards being attacks on members or moderators. This thread for instance is at a fork in the road. Will it stay on the path of helpful criticism and debate or will it turn towards personal attacks on individual moderators? That's the type of fork that decides a thread's fate. We close very few topics but those that turn personal really leave us no choice.

There have been differences between users and moderators at one point or another, that's where we learn from the situations though. I know of differences between users and mods in the past and I think everybody needs to give a second chance to those they have differences with. I know we all try to improve how we handle things and hopefully it's evident over time.

So what happens when a "moderator" personally attacks a member??? I look at what has been said on this site, and I understand that we are all different, and express ourselves differently, however there are "some" moderators who have taken their "responsibilities" way too seriously.

Look I am sure that I have been over the line a few times, but I have also turned the other cheek a time or two as well.

Fair enough, I know I too have been opinionated at times, like anybody. I think as we have grown, it has gotten much better. I also think it has gotten exponentially better on all accounts the past month or two as we've all been around more users on a constant basis.

I think the best thing is for everybody to look towards the future and what we can all do to make this a great place going forward and forget about the time or two in the past when somebody has rubbed us the wrong way.

This is a very good point. I think we all can appreciate the effort and work most mods and Jeremy put into this site. But when a mod interjects their own personal agenda towards a member(s) to the point of chastising them for the manner in which they post; not for subject matter and outside of opinions…………… well that is just over the top in my opinion.

Not the least of which said mod calling me a *****. If that is not a personal attack what is? From a certain mod no less. How does that reflect towrds others involved with this site?

I can't speak for Jeremy, but your best bet there is to just send a PM to the moderator and try to rectify the situation. If that doesn't work, PM one of the other mod's and we can discuss it privately. PM's really are way under-utilized I think. They really help keep the site clear of everyone's dirty laundry. I understand what you're saying though, it's easy to get hot-headed and attack someone personally, and even the moderators fall prey to it. However, I think all of the mod's are mature enough to know how to handle it if/when we're called out on it.

Well I think we've vented enough:) Let's try and think towards the future of the site and let the past issues die down. We can rehash everything forever but I urge everybody to try and get along as we all have the same overall goal of enjoying the company of other Cyclones. We may have small differences of opinion or ways of going about things, but we all have the same general idea.

Just relax and enjoy the ride that Cyclone Athletics will undoubtedly be taking us on. We don't all get along in real life and we won't all get along online sharing opinions and ideas about things dear to us. Let's try and do our best though:)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this too. I highly doubt I've seen all the threads that end up closed, but of all the ones I've seen closed, it has only been done by one specific moderator. I can honestly say I don't recall any other moderator closing a thread. To be fair, I know Jeremy has closed threads before. I have no problems with the guy who started the whole website doing this, especially since it has been in a tolerant manner.

Guys, you need to remember that the moderators are a very necessary part of the site. They are in essence the backbone to make sure things are smooth. They're the ones deleting porn that gets posted, removing slanderous remarks and keeping things appropriate for all ages. They might not always do what everybody agrees with but it's in theory what they feel is best for the site and it's continuation. I know it's not always the fun thing to do and that's all the more reason to appreciate what they do. They put up with threads like this bashing them for all the hard work they do that never gets recognized. Have I agreed with every single thing done? No but I also understand they're looking out for all of us to be able to continue to call this place home. They deserve far more credit than what they get and everybody needs to cut them slack for making judgment calls on the fly. We're all young and energetic, opinionated and human.

What is the common denominator I wonder.

Welp I've said my piece. Just food for thought for the Admin at this point.

Something about the old saying: it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch.

Later.

We're all young and energetic, opinionated and human.

I resent that...I am neither young or energetic, and some days barely human.

My 2 cents: this board is virtually hawk-free and generally respectful, which can't be said for many others of its ilk. I take the good with the bad, and must say that it is overwhelmingly good! (and free!)

My experience with the mods has been that they have been very helpful when I first started posting and had some questions. Conversely, one did shut down a thread after my first post when some guy jumped me for some innocuous comment. I got defensive and retaliated back, and the thread, in that case, was closed justifiably.

Not trying to diminish the concerns here, just giving my experiences!

Very important, please read...

One last note at bed time. Please let this die down and see how things are going forward. We have the best forums here for open and free discussion and nobody here deserves to be crucified for having a die-hard belief and love for the Cyclones. Let's let this die and revisit it in a few months after things have evolved.

Sorry to have started the commotion! For the record, I've never had a direct problem with any of the mod's, though one of them does have the distinction of receiving the only negative reputation I've ever doled out (and it wasn't Amy or Angie or C. John or Guitarchitect or any of the other mod's who have posted in this thread).

I really only wanted an administrator over-ride on the "BVD lock", but I now understand it was locked down due to personal attacks on a member. While I didn't call anybody any names, I was participatory and for that I apologize.

Keep up the great work as it's a wonderful site! Thanks, Jeremy!

Most of the people that run this site understand it for what it is (yes Jeremy I AM talking about you), a forum for people to get into and discuss/argue all things Iowa State. I believe that it was designed to be a free flowing discussion, and as long as noone is attacked on a personal level, then anything should be fair game.

The problem is that there are SOME, I REPEAT SOME, moderators who consider themselves the perfect fan, and all should aspire to be like them, and root for Iowa State in their perfect way. When there are people of dissenting opinions on board, and they make their feelings known, it disrupts the moral utopia that some of the these people wish for. You have seen the people on here that try to guide the debate as it happens, we ALL know who they are.

I love this site as well, Jeremy does a hell of a job, and I like a lot of the people on this site, even the ones that don't agree with me:wink0st:.

I think everything will cool down IF Dan McCarney ever gets a job. Some of these people need it, because they invested so much in the guy. The problem is that the clock is ticking down. There aren't too many jobs left out there.

Jeff you crack me up! Man you had me laughing on this comment. It's the Dan McCarney conspiracy raising it's ugly head again! :baffled5wh:

Thanks Bobber.

I think that it is time to state for the record that while I don't agree with certain people on this site, it is never anything personal. We all agree on one thing that Iowa State is the best team on the planet. So even though we are all different people from all different walks of life, but we have that one bond.

I think that it is important to always remember that the people on the other end of the computer are people too. I know that sometimes in the heat of argument we may forget that (I know that I do), but I am extending the olive branch to the moderator who has been the target of this thread.

I for one think the Mods do a great job here and are fair and considerate. For instance there was a situation today where a user was leaving neg. rep for a few user's and putting my name at the end of the comment. All the sudden I was getting PM messages in my box asking why I left the comments and I had no clue what they were talking about. This was sometime late this afternoon this started and I just got home and had a message from a Mod that they tracked down who it was and were handling the situation. I did not initiate the "investigation" and I am very impressed how quickly the situation got handled before it could have gotten ugly and I was acused of more things that I did not do.

I've been on some other boards in the past I think the people that run this one do a great job and are very fair. There are some boards that would delete or lock any threads that were any bit negative or causing a big debate and here as long as everyone continues a civil thread they let it go on.
