He has "Stooops" in his name, but that's the only thing I'm excited about with this potential hire.

Just what we need, a coach who would have been fired from Arizona if they would have lost to ASU, and who was actively pursuing the ISU job because he knew he was walking on eggshells at Arizona. Just because Auburn did us a favor, doesn't mean we have to do the same for Arizona. It wouldn't be the best hire, but there are worse candidates out there, so I guess I'm middle of the road on this one.

If this is true and it is Stoops, I will be surprised for two reasons.

1) Pollard hired a guy who simply has not proven much.
2) The media/fans figured it out 5 days before it was announced.

Those right there are exactly the reasons this isn't going to happen.

.... that and Marty broke the story. Ha. Last time around there were actually respected members of the media that whiffed on the new coach. What chance do you give MT to be the one to get it this time?

JP you could do better with Loney who WANTS to coach here and you know he'd NEVER leave until you kick him out or he retires.

Has Geoffrey's plane taken off yet? That would be the key!

and...count me out of JP fanship if this is true. I do not want Mike Stoops...and I do not want the "Stoops Bowl", or what I would like to call "Family Massacre".

Knowing how JP had worked in the past, I'd say there is about a 2% chance that it's Stoops.

I hope you are right. Bob Stoops is one of the worlds biggest A-holes which being that he is a former Hawk goes without saying. I would expect nothing less of his brother. This is a bad bad bad bad bad move. I would jump off of the Pollard bandwagon and seriously consider starting said bandwagon on fire.

I have no problem if Stoops is the guy. I like Pat Hill also. Both have built up programs that were very down when they got there.

I don't really care about the wow factor. I'm in the "more with less" and "build a program" camp. He's spent alot of time in the Big 12.

If Marty gets this right, it would be more surprising than an SEC power hiring a 5-19 coach.

Correct me if I'm wrong- If we don't hear who the coach is by Friday, its a pretty good chance its Hill or Stoops. Since both have bowl games Sat.

some of you are showing a lot of visciousness toward this possible hiring. JP has a lot more information than we do, so I'm inclined to trust the man in charge of this process.

I really dont understand the hate for Stoops. The guy def. has a coaching pedigree, is turning things around at AZ (they were awful for a while there), and has plenty of recruiting ties.

And for anybody who questions his W-L record this year, look at this schedule! I would be more than happy playing BYU in a bowl game this year after that schedule!!

8/30 Idaho 1-0 (0-0) W 70-0
9/06 Toledo 2-0 (0-0) W 41-16
9/13 @ New Mexico 2-1 (0-0) L 36-28
9/20 @ UCLA 3-1 (1-0) W 31-10
10/04 Washington 4-1 (2-0) W 48-14
10/11 @ Stanford 4-2 (2-1) L 24-23
10/18 No. 25 California 5-2 (3-1) W 42-27
10/25 No. 5 USC 5-3 (3-2) L 17-10
11/08 @ Washington State 6-3 (4-2) W 59-28
11/15 @ Oregon 6-4 (4-3) L 55-45
11/22 No. 21 Oregon State 6-5 (4-4) L 19-17
12/06 Arizona State 7-5 (5-4) W 31-10

With the talent we have coming back (if they all stay) I think Stoops could come in here and win right away!! Isnt that what we are looking for?

I didnt realize how good they were this year @ AZ. 5 losses by 28 pts including a 7 point loss to USC. Still not thrilled at the thought but I will wait until the real announcement before judging. Either way I am at every home game next year

How can you not be excited about the idea of Mike Stoops taking the healm? He took a miserable Arizona team before he got there and has made them relevant in the fight to finish second in that conference. If you look at the recruiting side, its almost impossible to recruit on that side of the country becasue anybody who is half way decent heads to LA for Pete Carrol. Thats why that conference is a freaking monopoly because USC gets anybody they want. Get the Fulmers, Pattersons, and Petersons out of your head because its just not going to happen. Those guys have no motivation to come here given the current situations they are in. Lets face it, Mike Stoops, before he was a head coach, was just as impressive of a coordinator as Chizik. As a head coach, he was head and shoulders above what Chizik did with comparable programs. Anybody who was on the Chizik bandwagon has to like this hire. This guy can coach so just accept it and support him!
