Not excited at all about Stoops.

Nothing in his bio excites me.

No, we did not have a coach that could beat highly ranked teams while buildinbg a program. We did, however, have a coach who could win the big "rivalry" game when the other team was down...and at the apex of his own tenure.

Bottom line a guy who can beat a top 10 team and then goes 3-8, 6-6 and 5-7..either is not a good coach or the team they beat was not a good team.

And Mac always got teams Jack'd up for UI and Nebby but LOST to teams like Baylor at home...never said he won against highly ranked teams.

What is going on? Are these the only two names still floating around? I wasn't on all morning and looks like a lot happened.

Marty is saying the deal is done and an annoucement may come Monday.

Multiple sources now are telling us that the negotiations with Arizona head coach Mike Stoops are in the ‘final stages’…any announcement of Stoops’ hiring would be put off until Monday as Arizona plays BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl Saturday night. A source told us a short time ago that the University of Illinois staff had word of Stoops’ hiring at ISU.

I guess I still don't get why everyone is obsessed with him being an ex-Hawk. If the guy can coach then I don't really care but I am not saying Stoops can coach.

Marty is now saying that Illinois staff had word of Stoops' hiring at ISU. How the heck (and why) would Illinois know about it?

If this is true and it is Stoops, I will be surprised for two reasons.

1) Pollard hired a guy who simply has not proven much.
2) The media/fans figured it out 5 days before it was announced.

If true bad job out of Pollard. I'd rather have an Iowa State guy Loney, then Stoops.

I'll still support the Cyclones (for life) but season tickets are not being renewed next year.

Knowing how JP had worked in the past, I'd say there is about a 2% chance that it's Stoops.
