Interesting. People always assume if Leach would leave Tech it would be somewhere on the west coast, but if he didn't go to UCLA last year, I don't think he'd go to Washington which is in a bigger hole than UCLA was.

He wanted UCLA, they didn't want him. Something about not wanting to cheat. They got slick rick instead.

Why would he leave Tech for Washington? That seems like a step down.

Probably just interviewing to leverage a bigger paycheck from Tech....

First Washington is on the West Coast. Second I don't remember Mike Leach cheating at anything. Basically it's just everyone who always dogs leach and tells everyone his system don't work when it clearly does. Third Washinton is a sleaping Giant.

It could also be Leach interviewing with any school in Seattle. What better way to keep it hush than to interview off campus. I like to think that's just Chizik finding our new OC.

If I'm Leach........ (which would be hilarious)

I look at my current situation in the South. You have two behemeaths in UT & OU that will always outspend, outrecruit, and outtradition you. (I may have made that last word up).

Then you have OSU pouring boat loads of $ into its program. Thanks T.Boone. The competition is just getting steeper. That doesn't even mention the former titan A&M that does have the ability to spend and recruit. This is as tough a 6 team gauntlet in the NCAA as there is.

I may be wrong, but I think Tech has climbed to the highest point of it's figurative football mountain. Standing toe to toe with OU/Texas was about as much as they can ever ask for. I don't see them being able to sustain this year in and year out.

Leach may see the Pac 10 as another adventure (in a pirate sense). He may also be bored with going to the Cotton bowl and Holiday bowl over and over. I know I wouldn't mind! Plus, Washington did win a National title in the early 90's I think, and has the fan base and resources to do well. Would be a surprise but I can definitely see it happening. In Seattle he can take his lady out to all sorts of nice restuarants too.

Sorry if I made it sound like Leach is the cheater. I was trying to say that he is a good coach and does things on the up & up. Slick Rick is the one who cheats!

what makes Washington a sleeping giant? I asked someone in the business about it, and he commented that Washington's facilities are mediocre at best and it isn't that great of a job.
Just curious.

Washington isn't that far removed from the Rose Bowl... Haven't they won a couple of National Championships?

Don't worry, it was obvious.

Because they recruit against Washington State and that is in the middle of nowhere.

Also they have tradition and the stadium is in a beautiful setting. They actually have party cove type tailgating on the water.

Washington has a large endowment. They get donations from a lot of Microsoft honchos, and they have had success in the past. Also, the Pac 10 is a good conference to have potent offenses and crap defenses.

The Washington situation will be interesting. Mora Jr's dream job is to coach at Washington, but he's in place to take over for the Seahawks. Do you think he'll decide to go to Washington, thus opening up the Seahawks job?

Going back to Leach, it never hurts to interview. It usually results in a pay raise from your current school to keep you. Just ask Kirk Ferentz...

think about it this way...Texas Tech was PHENOMENAL this year. 11-1, great team. And they still couldn't even make the conference championship game! Better chance at BCS in Pac 10
