Here we go again...wishing to be the 1987 Iowa hawkeyes lol. You have to have:

-A 6'1" PG
-A 6'3" SG
-A 6'6" SF
-A 6'8" PF
-A 6'10"+ C
- 2 6'7" "Effort guys" on the bench
- 1 6'4" combo that can fill in at PG or SG
- 2 other guys to come in a press, press, press and then switch between man and zone defenses every possession

It saddens me that this is what Cyclone fans think a basketball team has to look like to be successful in 2016.

For basketball yeah but it's not really the case for football. Iowa is a state with ~3 million, there's not going to be a ton of d1 athletes

The state of Iowa currently has 4 native players on active NBA rosters (Barnes, Collison, Korver, McDermott). 4 of 450 on active rosters has to be far ahead based on population.

And it doesn't count Niang who is certainly an honorary Iowa native.

And this doesn't count those in D-leagues (Nader, Paige, Palo, Uthoff, Washpun, Woodbury) or those in the NBA with marginal connections to the state (Justin Hamilton, Wesley Johnson).

Not bad.

What? I know nothing about the NBA but assume teams have more than 5 players each.

Yeah it's still pretty rare, like there's only 1 player in the 2017 class with a D1 offer

Urbandale
Our team played against Seth Tuttle in high school and while he was very good, we never thought he has division 1 talent. He proved us wrong by being a second team all american.

I'm just saying you never know...
Yeah Matt Tiby from Urbandale is similar. I never thought he would really even play in college but he went to Milwaukee and is now playing professionally.

That's why I still want another post player. Kasongo only averaged like 1 point and 1 rebound a game at Tennessee so I have no idea what to expect from him

Nick Weiler-Babb averaged .7 points, .8 rebounds and .5 assists in 4.8 minutes per game at Arkansas as a freshman but I'd say he's doing ok for ISU this year. Kasongo averaged 1.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.5 minutes per game. People need to quit acting like players don't get better ever.

Kasongo wasn't a true freshman last season with good, older players ahead of him

SHOULD have taken him! Remember Loren Meyer? How about Paul Shirley (not an Iowan, but was a walk-on “white bread” project guy from the same mold), Jared Homan (total stud from a dairy farm around Remsen, IA), not to mention Jackson Vroman, Adam Haluska (different profile but completely underappreciated and left as a result?) and others. These are total GLUE GUYS that make a huge difference...not everyone can be Marcus Fizer or Jamaal Tinsley (OR Monte Morris! Don't you think we could use a little more height and muscle underneath right now? And why ISN'T Simeon playing more...is it an effort problem OR skill deficit...SHOULD be big enough to be a decent rebounder, right? (or wrong?)

Loren Meyer was a very highly sought after recruit, not a project.

I think that year we got Hoiberg, Hurl Beechum and Meyer from the state of Iowa. Johnny Orr said something like "Out of the top 5 kids in the state we got 3, one went to junior college, and one went to Iowa, which is pretty much the same thing."

Don't forget Brady Ernst, Clayton Vette and Alex Thompson

We took "flyers" on Carter and Ernst instead of this kid. Hindsight and all that. You cant take 10 flyers every year unless you're Tim Floyd.
