I've always found it bizarre that the largest population area in the state produces essentially zero DI talent. and then I see a 6'9 240 lb iowa kid with a 40 in vertical dive on the floor for a loose ball and grab 9 rebounds against Indiana and think, hey, probably always worth a shot on a kid like that.
For basketball yeah but it's not really the case for football. Iowa is a state with ~3 million, there's not going to be a ton of d1 athletes

our backcourt next year is jackson, babb, long, wigginton, mcneil, and lewis. that's 6 athletic, talented, (and very young) s16 type potential that will hold their own in the b12.

our frontcourt is soloman.....and.....

there's got to be room for hard working, developmental, role player type bigs that can defend and rebound. why not take 1, maybe 2 schollys and use them for that purpose? jacobson would've been perfect.

I'd rather have a JUCO and grad transfer big guy. We could have kept Ernst too if we wanted to but we cut him loose

I would love it if we had 2 players sitting out each year due to transfer rules. It is hard to keep an entire roster happy, narrowing that bench down, while having 2 players learning the system and practicing would be ideal in my opinion.

Way up there
Iowans do love them some small town white dude project players.

For ISU fans its the Jared Homan effect, fwiw, Jacobson put up better numbers than Homan as a frosh in nearly every category despite playing nearly 10 minutes less a game. IMO if Prohm was here, we would have shown more interest in this kid, he just wasn't a Fred type of player. Freddie recruited to win now, likely because he knew he had bigger goals.

We have Ray Kasongo and Lard next year too( and carter but he's kinda irrelevant). I'd still like to another post player. Will Ray be playing 1 or 2 years?

Here nor there
These guys are a dime a dozen. Put too many on our roster and we might as well get Licklighter to coach.
So are the mythical upside guys like Carter. Too many of those guys, and/or holding out for optimal fits, leaves you with just as bad of post play, or no post game at all.

Unless you're bringing in top 150 players or proven transfers you really never know what you're going to get. From what little of seen of Jacobson I don't think he'd even get minutes for us this year
