Metinka Slater leaving KCCI?

Turned on the news at noon to hear from Alyx Sacks that this is Metinka's last weathercast on KCCI. She didn't say what she was going to do. I just remember seeing her doing game forecasts at JTS a few years ago.

That's too bad. I always thought she did a fine job and loved the Cyclones. Hopefully leaving KCCI is her decision and she's on to something exciting for her.

Yep, I think more and more broadcasters are starting to do that. I'm sure those hours (either super early or late) can be tough.

It seems like KCCI is losing a lot. I think this is happening at other stations as well, but KCCI more than others.

Yes. 100% her decision. Between the hours and our son’s weekend baseball travel, it was time to be normal again.

Agree. Outside of Metinka the KCCI weather team leaves alot to be desired. Think they have had alot of people in and out in that department.

WHO 13 Weather team is a juggernaut of amazing talent and destroys all other local competition.

I wish 13 would upgrade their tech and invest in a small live chaser network. I personally prefer Channel 5 for Iowa severe coverage (o watch severe coverage online and on YouTube A LOT). They don’t hide their tech on-air like 8 & 13 do.

as a Mediacom person I was without 5 for so long I forget they still exist. I have it back now but they don't even register on my radar.

There is a channel 5?? I watch absolutely nothing on there even when we did get it.

You know, I always picture her as a mom to boys.
On a different tangent, where's the public awareness that KCCI offers to "important people who leave or come back?" Maybe she didn't want that..?

I’m also a little biased because they are the only DSM station that puts their old coverage on YouTube

They showed her family on air at noon. Her husband seemed really thrilled about being there....not. Their oldest son is going to ISU in the fall. Their daughter is like a junior in high school. I remember hearing that their youngest boy a freshman in high school was supposedly really good in archery. Holy smokes! I didn't realize she was that short though.

Those hours would kinda suck even though she did the noon and weekend morning weather. The KCCI scene has really done a complete turnover in the last 5 years or so. I like how WHO-TV has the commercials about the years of experience of everyone, pretty much leaves KCCI in the dust anymore.
