The spreading of rumors without anything concrete was a nice touch also. I would like to know why something in his past BEFORE he enrolled at ISU had to be spewed over the airwaves today.

I think you have the wrong Miller on KXNO. The only reference I made of Mike Taylor today is what you will hear to lead off the podcast when I spoke to Coach McDermott. I never brought it up again in my entire show. And I also let Coach know that I was going to have to ask him about that, before I asked him, so I didn't hit him out of left field with this. We had this interview arranged for this time last week.

Thanks Jon, I really like what you do on KXNO and Cy-Hawk Talk. And yes, sometimes it's difficult for me to say that.

I don't doubt that Mike got an OWI in his past, but to say that it was covered up at ISU with the academic suspension is just ********. That is Gmac's first big move at ISU, lieing to the world? Give me a break. I know he got it from here but this is one of the dumbest rumors I've ever heard. How is this OWI relevant to this past arrest anyway? One was before he was at ISU and this is his first one here. So Jeremy tried to keep it under raps before for "the good of isu" but not lets it out and creates a whirlwind around this episode? This whole thing is stupid and is dragging Michael Taylor's name through the mud.

He was already committed to ISU and was a part of the team regardless of how you try and spin it. It was not a coverup, it did happen though and you can't try and spin this into nothing. Do you want to win at all costs and become another embarrassment or do you want to win for the right reasons and with good guys?

Oh give me a break! How many people knew about this OWI and discussed it before today? Because he was arrested for a totally different charge it gives everyone the right to discuss it and judge him? Because THIS SITE decided to let the cat out of the bag now this has made it to the airwaves and out to everyone that listens to KXNO. I'm sure Mike is plenty embarassed with his latest arrest and did not expect to have to re-live his previous arrest.

Everybody in the media knew about it back last summer and it wasn't on the air because of CF today, it was because of Mike and his actions. I had already talked to Marty & Miller and they were going to discuss the OWI regardless of if it was on CF or not.

I'm going to the gym to burn off this steam. I leave you with one question though...

What image do you want ISU to portray? One of integrity and values or one that will win at any cost?

It doesn't matter if you want to sweep everything under the rugs and run a dirty program. I on the other hand would like my donations and money going to a University that holds everybody accountable to the same standards.

Remember, we had a coach fired for stupidity while drinking, are the players not held to that same standard?

Whether the punishment will fit the crime in this case is yet to be determined, but I think (if all the allegations are true) MT will need to be let go, if only for the reason of showing others that the new regime will not tolerate this. (I have little sympathy for someone who messes up, gets a generous second chance, then promptly messes up again. If one is not smart enough to straighten up for two years of paid-for education and all the perks that come with being a college athlete, then he probably shouldn't be at said university in the first place.)

It's a tough question. If I am understanding correctly, even though it was alcohol related, he essentially received a traffic ticket in Wisconsin.
Now, he gets drunk at someone's apartment, and vandalizes property. Both of these happen in a one year period, so we see a possible pattern of behavior happening here.

We have a men's basketball coach who has been lauded for being disciplined. He has already suspended the person in question, claiming that it was for academic reasons (which may be true). At this point, Taylor has been suspended from the team, pending any legal action.

Well my take is that McDermott is letting the legal system take it's course (saves him from having to make a tough decision now). At the end of the day, I have to believe that Taylor will be found guilty. That is where the tough decision has to be made. I think we have seen the end of Mr Taylor in a Cyclone uniform.

Whoa Whoa Whoa Jeremy... what's this about a dirty program??? Come on man, regardless of what happens in the Taylor situation, we are the furthest thing from a dirty program and you know it. I understand you're a little upset right now but seriously. I'm assuming having the contacts that you have, you are aware of our last coaching staffs dealings? Please don't use their attributes to describe the current staff. The word dirty has no business being thrown out right now regarding Greg or our basketball program, plain and simple, ESPECIALLY when we don't know ALL of the facts in the Taylor situation at this point. When the dust settles, then we can accurately judge, IMO.

He never stated we have a dirty program. However, allowing this type of stuff would be us heading in that direction.

Not necessarily true. From the way it looks to me, it looks like MT MAY have a drinking problem (OWI and a supposed "drunken rage" from the looks of it). Now, MT has made his bed, and he has to lie in it for whatever charges, and/or GMac decides to do. I've seen what the alcohol drug can do to people (I'm still not saying this is necessarily true, but there's a lot of danger signals going off), and hopefully, IF MT gets another shot at ISU, he can see what he could be heading towards. Sometimes it takes a couple eye-openers to see it in yourself, and hopefully MT can see that in himself if it's the case. The last thing I would want to see is for him to completely throw away everything he has if he were to get the boot, and live that way out of depression/feeling sorry for himself.

I for one, have a difficult time trying to decide in my head what I would do if I were GMac. Personally, I want to give him another chance; mostly because this is his first incident since being ENROLLED at ISU. If I were as close to him as GMac, and thought he may becoming an alcohol abuser, I would probably make him go into rehab BEFORE I let him back on the team. But I would give him that chance to show his dedication to the program/myself/the team. But I wouldn't want him to have a chance to give a black eye to the program, either. I'm just glad I don't have to make a decision like this, which unfortunately, has a chance at doing a lot of harm to the individual, but a lot of good for the team/program at the same time. My heart goes out to both MT and GMac. :baffled5wh:

After listening to the end of Jon's piece with Coach McD, I think he might really be a closet clone fan! Or maybe, like other Hawk fans, he's envious of the excitement currently surrounding Iowa State athletics... just a thought.

People Need to Let G-Mac do His Job!!!

I trust G-Mac will do what is best for ISU and the Cyclone basketball program.

Taylor's future at ISU should be on thin ice, but IMO what he has done doesn't call for his dismissal from the ISU basketball program. I would consider the OWI a much more serious problem than the misdemeanor for damaging university property.

IMO when ISU recruited Mike Taylor and offered him a scholarship it's a 2-way street. Taylor has a responsibility to go to class, be a good team member and stay out of serious or repeat trouble with the law.

ISU has a responsibility to educate the kids, watch out for their welfare and to work through problems a student athlete might have. Mike is a 20 year old kid and IMO G-Mac & ISU need to support him during this time. Sure Mike is the one who SCREWED UP- but his offenses don't call for booting off the team permanently.

I'd have much more respect for ISU as an athletic department if they work with Mike Taylor and help him learn from this mistake. It's way too easy to discard a kid like a used kleenex and look to sign the next kid.
