Duh! If your expectations were higher, you wouldn't be on here writing that you're "OK with the result" of yesterday's game, which you somehow consider a "moral victory"! You'd be discouraged that a winnable game got away from us...

As for part two, I haven't missed a home game in four plus years, during which I've purchased five season tickets / year and made a contribution in return for a parking pass. My family and I have attended more than a few road games. Though we live in Iowa City, we wear so much Cyclone clothing that it's a running joke with friends. Finally, I'm the unpaid "voice of the Cyclones" on a small AM radio station in Iowa City, doing short updates on Friday & Monday mornings. I watch the team and I've never wavered in my support of the team. Given the level of my support for the team, I believe I've earned the right to voice my opinion, be it good, bad or indifferent.

What do you do to support the program from CO, other than to offer up excuses and worship the new AD?

I'll leave you alone now. Please don't question my committment again!

Any other words you would like to quote me as saying that I didn't say? I would challenge you to find where I called a loss to Iowa a moral victory, dumba$$!

Wow, you are a true fan. I didn't know you did an unpaid radio show and that you wore cyclone clothing. If you do both at the same time, I'm really impressed.

What do I do to support the program from CO? I donate to the school and I let the athletic director do HIS JOB! I go to every road game here in CO and even make the 900 mile trip back to Ames for a few. I find it funny you question my loyalty when I'm the one supporting the team and coach. Oh, wait, thats right, you have earned the right to b!tch and moan.

ok lets strat this, if you fire McCarney, who the hell are you going to bring in. With Iowa States budget, you will not get a better coach then Mac.

There's the issue. Not really the budget thing so much...but who are you going to get?

My response to the daily D-Mac haters is this...

Give us a viable better option. You want change...show us how it will make us better.

I say let Dan recruit and motivate the team. Get rid of Barney Cotton who can't get the ball to our All-American and keep Skladany. Our defense has stepped up this year even though most of them are new. It's our offense which returns 10 starters that continues to choke.

I am so sick of hearing this. I'm sorry, but if our fear is that we can never do better, then why even try. There are LOTS and LOTS of great candidates out there that would love a chance to prove their stuff at a BCS/B12 school. Even the one with the smallest budget.

Who knew anything about Kirk F? No one. That's the way it is with most coaches out there..... they were once unknowns and a great AD found them and made them a head coach. Jamie Polard will have to do just that and he will have several candidates for the job. Some we will have heard of and some we won't. Some of those candidates will be great head coaches and some won't. It will be Jamie's job to pick the right guy and then give him whatever it takes to get him and make him successful. Jamie's job and reputation will be defined by that selection and it's eventual outcome.

The stadium upgrades and the "Next Step" are NEVER going to happen without an energized fan base and the fan base will never be energized with Mac plodding along with 5-7 to 7-5 finishes and winnable games/championships that are lost. We certainly shouldn't "sell" Mac now.... but IMO, this year is pivotal and if don't make a bowl, JP will have to do something ....... or the ground swell of support will be lost and his great plans for Cyclone Athletics will lose steam.

A better poll might have been: Are you OK with mediocrity ...... YES/NO

The sides would have been the same. Some are OK with where we are and are NOT willing to take any risks to move to the next level. Some are not OK with where we are and ARE willing to take risks to get to the next level.

In my mind, it's clear which side of that point Jamie is standing on. Very, very clear.

Being OK with the result and being OK with losing are two different things. I hate losing. I hate it. Period. But we didn't make a lot of mistakes. We didn't have turnovers. Our defense didn't fold up of shop. The biggest screw up was the long kick return and the missed field goal. Our offensive execution could have been better. The point is, I think we played a good game. But we got beat. That happens sometimes. Consider this. Iowa has won 24 of 25 at home prior to this game. We gave them about all they could handle.

And, Yes, I agree we got out-coached in the second half. They made adjustments and we didn't.

This is really the point right? The way our coaches.... ALL OF THEM .... are coaching is on Mac's shoulders. If the OC or DC are not performing, it is up to Mac to correct it or fire them. If he doesn't, then he is responsible. If they are under-performing because of Mac's coaching philosophies then Mac is responsible.

The difference between ISU and iowa is not the players on the field ...... it is coaching that separated those teams on Saturday.

Three games in a row now (and many in the past) the opponent has adjusted and shut us DOWN. We made no adjustments and won two (barely and against inferior teams) and lost one. This is a BADDDD trend and it is due to mediocre coaching. This head coach and his coaching staff have never given us reason to think they are capable of great things, IMO.

This is great. You captured my thoughts on this as well. Saying that we can not find anyone at the price we are paying is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the current coach. I give him credit. He is a good guy and does things the right way, but he is not winning games that he should win. At the end of the day the bottom line for all coaches is "How many games have you won?"

Keep in mind...the "coaching upgrades" at K-State and especially Colorado do not appear to be going all that well....so far.

I think we all believe that Hawkins will have CU back in the next couple years...but as the last few weeks have shown...a coaching change is rarely a quick fix.

So we make a change and then lose someone like UNLV, UNI, etc. What then? Who gets blamed? Mac again for not recruiting? Pollard for not hiring the "right guy"?

Sometimes...and I know it's hard for some of you to believe...but sometimes...players just don't execute what their coached during the week. At ISU...we're getting a better caliber of player than we did 10 years ago...but we're still not on pace with the Iowa's, Oklahoma's, etc of the world. So, we're going to have more mental lapses and such.

And yes...Iowa, Oklahoma and many other big time programs have better coaches. That likely won't change anytime in the near future. But to say D-Mac is horrible...well...that's just silly.

Some of you aught to go up and actually observe a practice as I have. Too late this year as they're all closed now...but make a point to do it next spring. You'll have a new appreciation for what goes on in Ames.

i think i echo a lot of the feelings that other people have when i say that mac is not a bad coach. mac is an average coach. he's been an average coach his whole tenure here, and i for one am actually happy to see our fan base upset with the underachieving that is taking place so far and are voicing their opinions that it is put up or shut up time. mac needs to produce better than mediocre results this year. i think it is very reasonable to say that mac needs to and should end this year at least 8-4. this team is too talented to be mediocre!!!!
