Statistically, not a great game. But he had the shot of the night, and totally changed the momentum for the game

Ya that whole sequence really set the stage. Monte swats Gessell's shot, then Thomas dribbles it down and hits a last second 3.

Couldn't have done it any better.

Only made one shot, but his confidence makes all the difference in the other parts of his game. Proud of him.

The way things played out, it's hard to argue that MT's last second shot didn't take Iowa's will. And he was so cool. You often see players panic in that spot and shoot it far too early. He took it as far down court as he could, set his feet, and nailed it. Best play of the game, in my opinion.

He's just struggling overall though. 2 of his last 10 or something.

I SOOOO want to see him go all Jake Sullivan against KU in 2001 - go off and hit everything in sight. Completely unconscious for a game or to and get that confidence a little higher. Be nice to spell Naz, or take over the 2 spot when Naz takes the point ant not miss a beat.

He has led the team in scoring one game already this year, so it's not like we doing poorly. Shooters have slumps. Heck, even Naz did last year.

Matt is building. He's going to be really good. This isn't like NBA Jam where guys step on the court day one, hitting every shot with fire coming out of the ball

I hope so. Really want to see him hit a rhythm. Just when he hits a big one like that to end the half, and you think that may break the damn....

If we get a second dead-eye from outside with him and Naz. spread offenses out for Georges, BDJ and Hogue - not to mention Monte's ability to get the ball anywhere... holy hell!

We have a team full of guys who can hit shots and are physical strong players for their position on both ends. Thomas and Nader are both going to be a load for opposing teams to face even though they hadn't really starred for us before this season.

The one piece we're missing is to have a guy of McKay's size and skills come in, and he's here next week. It's great to have Tsalmpouris, Custer and Cooke along to develop for next year and down the road too.

From a purely eye test perspective, Matt looks completely different than last year.
I followed him on a few defensive possessions and he played very solid defense. I agree that some point this year he'll break out for a huge game.

If if he doesn't, I still think he's a solid rotation player that gives huge minutes. He was borderline a liability at times last year. No where near that this year.
