Here's my best advice after years of strife inside and outside my own fandom and loyalty to Iowa State. It doesn't really do us any good to argue amongst ourselves and cause high anxiety and a sense of impending Doom to loom over a potentially Big 12 Championship caliber team. STFU guys and enjoy what is happening here and now. Worry about problems when they actually exist. I'm getting a big softy listening to all this whining and conjecture.

If Campbell could have done one thing for this fan base, I think it would be to change their losing mentality. Hell we have a basketball team that wins in a typical year, if you can't find happiness in optimism then just look to Prohm for our own fortune. Have some self respect and give Campbell some space before we suffocate him like Fred.

I really don't want to entertain this topic, as I suspect it will only be fed more and more on a weekly basis this season, but I certainly didn't take a lot of comfort from his comments. Nice and all that he said he's only focusing on ISU football right now, and nice that he addressed it first before anyone could ask, but nothing he said should provide anyone any comfort about his long term commitment to the program. I personally am going to place it out of my mind as much as possible because I want to enjoy the season, but I won't feel great about anything until Ohio State fills the position with anyone other than Campbell.

Something to think about for you guys concerned. I do not think Campbell has a good enough resume to get the Ohio state job. I haven't liked a coach this much probably ever, but that is not a resune of an OSU coach. Add in the buyout (which they could pay) and it doesn't seem like it would be worth the risk to a program that can get 99% of all coaches available

Let's say they do want him and hire him. They will not do it until after the season. In my opinion Campbell would habe to win 9-10 cames in order to still make him a too target. If we only win 7-8 nobody is going to be talking about him to OSU. Possibly win the conference. If that happens I will miss him for sure, but he would be leaving us in a place we have never really been.
Yeah, I love Campbell, but I don't think he has the resume for the Ohio State job yet. And that's why I think it's better for Iowa State keeping Campbell if Meyer gets fired this year. Because Ohio State will most likely remain successful and not fire their coach which means they won't be looking for a new coach for quite a while. That's much better than Meyer not being fired, leaving in a few years, and now Campbell has an even better resume.

IMO, CMC's statement meant absolutely nothing, other than the fact that at this moment he's still the ISU coach, but that's it. Nothing more.

In fact, if anything, it probably made me less certain he will be here a year from now.

It amounted to him saying, "right now I'm at ISU, so that's all I care about". Which translated means, I will care only about ISU up until the moment I leave ISU, which could be any day, who knows? Not very comforting. He didn't deny anything.

This. I'm not sure how he could've worded it any differently or approached the press conference any better....but just kind of an unsatisfying speech, or at least that's my takeaway.

On the other hand, even giving a "firmly entrenched" type speech wouldn't probably have made me feel any better either. We've had that rug pulled out from under us before. And if he would've let the media have control of the press conference, it would've sounded even worse. Just not gonna be feeling any warm fuzzies until Ohio State makes a hire not named Matt Campbell. I'll enjoy the season though, because the uncertainty about the future will be enough to make me grateful we still have him.

I think Ohio State's timeline means Urban is staying put. They're wrapping all this up with like a week before their first game.

Not exactly sure.

They definitely have their mind made up, he's most likely staying or they are using two weeks to negotiate a buyout and get a donor to pay for it.

So, what is his role right now? Is he able to do anything related to their camp? Can he interact with the coaches? If not, it seems like it will be super-disruptive for him to come back into that role one week before the first game.
