Marc Morehouse (CR Gazette) blames the refs

For the most part the CR and DMS writers don't do much more than pander. The Star Tribune this weekend had a couple of columnists absolutely ripping on Adrian Peterson. They aren't afraid of the fan base of the best player on the most popular franchise in town.

Marc Moronhouse is just a fan with a degree in journalism. If you can't keep it classy find a new job as a writer for HN. Even CWilliams who is a Cyclone Fanatic has the ability to be realistic and unbiased about why our team loses. He will mention the refs (and sometimes it is) but always lists the other and usually more weighty reasons why we lost a game.

Logue's article in the DMR is nearly the exact duplicate of Morehouse's. I don't remember an article being written on Leonard Johnson's helmet-to-helmet call on a much taller Tony Moeaki. Of course Iowa fans called that one a good call.

The refs clearly benefited us in our victory, but we still had to make enough plays to cash in those gifts.

1x10^50% agree.
Cancelled my CRG subscription YEARS ago because you could barely find a mention of the Clones in it. Sometimes someone will bring one into the office and I will peruse it. Really shocking how little content is in it, in terms of news. You can get the same or more online for free. My folks get the DMR and it's about the same deal. What used to take 2 hours to read now takes 20 minutes. No idea how they get people to pay for it. I think my folks #1 interest is the Menards ad.

Same reason I cancelled my Quad City Times paper years ago due to the EICC crap in it.

The refs missed a targeting calls two plays before the one they did call.

Refs took it easy on the Hawks.

How do you figure? Just because the close calls we got were near the end of the game?

Who knows how much different the entire game turns out to be if ISU doesn't get hosed on some calls earlier in the game. Picking up that PI penalty was absolutely ridiculous.

And as it turns out, the calls we got in our favor were correctly called anyway.

Iowa fans thought all week that they were going to run it right down our throats all day. So did I. But ISU stopped them from doing that. That was what won the game for ISU IMO. And since Iowa didn't dominate us in the trenches, as anticipated, they have to go to the refs as an excuse. Sad, but predictable.

Please don't feed the trolls. Iowa did not get a single bad call in that game that I can recall. Anyone that thinks the refs did ISU any favors is just plan confused, lost or in denial. The targeting call was clearly correct according to the rules. Not sure what other calls Hawk fans are whining about. As far as I know the only bad call was the reversal of the PI call, which was amazingly bad. CPR had to yell at the refs because they spotted the ball in on the wrong side of the field after an incomplete pass, but that was no big deal.

The two calls that Hawk fans seem to be complaining about was the targeting call and the defensive holding on the last drive where Bibbs was held coming out of his break. That was third down and we were out of fg range I believe, but he was definitely held around the waist.

Tom Kakert is the best. That guys just hates Iowa State with a passion.

How so? That guys seems to be about the most level headed writer Iowa has. I just looked through his Twitter and he had really noting to say at all. Are you talking about Rob Howe?

They have to write stuff like that. Otherwise KF wont allow them into the weekly press conference and be allowed to be in the press box.

Well played...KF is all pissypants 3 games into the season. Can you imagine how they get worse as the season goes on? End of the season, the pressers will be 3 minutes of Kirk sitting there chewing gum, then asking if there are any questions and getting up and leaving before anyone can answer.

Surprised the hawk fans aren't complaining about the call to have a RS Freshman playing man coverage on a pre-season all big12 TE. But that was a coaching call wasn't it? Yeah.

If you watch the play where Rudock runs an option left the lead blocking O-Linesman was holding the hell outta our D-Linesman along with a facemask. Meh. Fact is, Iowa had MANY opportunities to overcome any alleged bad calls.

The issue with blaming the refs is that the most controversial calls were mostly reviewed. I don't remember if they were all reviewed or not. The officials reviewing the calls were from the Big 10.

My position on officiating is, "What would you say if it was the other way around?" If Martin - Manley got rocked like that on a potential game winning drive, Iowa fans would expect that call. Yes targeting is an objective call but it works against everyone. As a fan you just have to accept it and move on hoping you get the same call in a similar situation.

The opposite side is the PI call that got picked up. If that benefited ISU instead I would be saying, oops Iowa got screwed on that one. That's one that both sides can say it was a bad call.

In the end, Iowa got beat because ISU was able to finally slow down the run game and Sam was able to connect kn the passing game even without 3 of his best targets.

Iowa fans should be blaming their lack of passing game and poor pass defense. With a supposedly superior DL they got zero sacks as well.
