Have a new business computer that won't log in using the password that we had for it and the apple ID associated with it is locked.

I restarted, used command R and used the terminal to resetpassword

All the online help that I can find shows a screen that allows you to reset the password (or none) and then save at that point. What I get instead is a request for the password for the associated apple ID (which I don't know).

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy.

I think was like a new Sunday night 1040 radio call-in show.

"Got a problem you can't solve? Family problems? Your offensive tackle not getting low enough off the ball? Call in to the Dan McCarney radio show "Mac Help" from 7-9pm every Sunday night only on WHO 1040."

Sounds like FileVault is on.

Who setup the AppleID? Reset the AppleID password online.

That was the goofy thing- when I went to “forgot password” or “reset password”, it took me to a screen where I had to input the old password to continue. Ended up with his Apple ID locked.

I found a trick online that apparently makes the machine think it’s starting for the first time and got in that way. Set up a new user for him and an admin account for me.

Also useful for stolen laptops I would guess!
