Tasty Tacos and KC BBQ. Usually went to those when I was in Des Moines for lunch.

Fong's does have lunch slices. Today is their 1st anniversary. All slices are $2 I think.

High Life is a good option as well. I had a fried egg sandwich there the other day with some tots. Outstanding.

From Norwalk - head down to Valley Junction and go to Giffs (VFW).

Maybe call and see what they're serving for lunch. I belive it used to be tacos on Tues.

Only been there once or twice - but they fit the bill for hole in the wall. And used to have great food.

Too bad Valley Park Stadium is gone. That place would've been automatic.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea.... Valley Junction isn't too far off.

Hey what is the place in Des Moines that is known for their Graziano Sausage Grinders and other stuff like that?

My favorite place to eat lunch in Des Moines is Flarah's in Beaverdale. The address is 2815 Beaver Ave. They have hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, and their specialty is cheesecakes. Their cheesecakes are without a doubt the best I've ever had. When I'm in Des Moines, I make a point to try and stop by to grab a dozen mini cheesecakes. Definitely a good stop if you are in the area. Food is great and dessert is even better. Anybody ever had it?

welcome to flarahs :: des moines, iowa

My wife works with the owner's husband. The people at her work eat there a lot. She loves it.

The Tavern in Valley Junction?

Fiesta Cancun is good for Mexican on SE 14th, but probably not a good idea if you're sick.

Grab a tenderloin at Smittys, A Pizza at Bordenaros, A Sausage Sandwich at Barattas, A Coney at Teds Coney Island, Tacos at Tasty tacos or Henry J's. There is also another good Pizza place by Lincoln High but i can't remember the name. The south side is full of hole in the wall great places to eat.

Why am I not surprised that you can rattle off restaurants like a champ?

Will echo Henry Js and Paesano's. My friend lived in the house right behind that joint and we took full advantage. Tasty food, pretty cheap and COLD tap beer.

B@B is the best. Francies is great on Fleur. Skips is good but a little pricey. Bordy's is really good pizza. Scornovocca's on e 14th is the best pizza in Des Moines. Overall B@B will make pretty much anything you want and it will be good.

Last time I ate at Palmers it was like $11. I thought, huh I could have went and bought the best ribeye at Fareway, a side, and a nice beer and my lunch would have been half of Palmers and one heck of a lot better.

There is only one small problem with this scenario. It's kind of hard to cook a rib eye at work and my boss may have a problem with me drinking a beer at my cube.

Palmers is a little expensive but it's like $3 more than going to subway and a lot better. When we go out to eat I end up paying $3 for a beer that I could get for 50 cents at home but that doesn't stop me.

Racoon River - Great, great burgers there. I recommend the Firehouse Burger. Simply awesome. Was just there Saturday night too.

I think their food is ok, but it's overpriced.

Tumea and Sons does lunch, I think. I haven't been there, but it's tasty for dinner for sure.

Tsing Tsao is pretty good too.

Go south to Gabby's in Prole or the Roadside in Martensdale. Or there's a place in
Bevington.

How many need to get out a map to find these towns?

I live in Martensdale, they have pretty solid tenderloins. The giant ones... I've never eaten at Gabby's. I personally really like Villaggio in Norwalk. VERY reasonable food. Can get a panzerotti (calzone) for like 3.45 and a gigantic pizza size cheese bread for like 4.50 i think.

I know it is not always feasible but it puts into perspective of how much you pay for a turkey sandwich, some coleslaw and a drink.
