quite the show on Netflix. Not sure what to think, but it certainly gets the headline of most gory and sexual thing I’ve seen on Netflix.

Anyone else watched it?

I love it. Mainly because it's the mind of Fincher (and others) that came up with it. I love them breaking the mold of 22 minute comedy show/44 minute drama times that are universally used in tv shows. Why does an episode have to follow those rules? They don't. You can make a great episode that's 8:00.

Friend turned me on to it and I binged it in a few days. Of course most of them are 10 minutes long but the animation was amazing, the stories kinda out there and the friggin cartoons were HOT!

It's the 2019 version of Heavy Metal, the movie. I found that if I put myself in that frame of mind, I really enjoyed it. Don't expect super deep plots. Just enjoy it for what it is.

PFFFFT! Anyone who has ever seen Heavy Metal would say the exact same thing, they would not need to have read a Rolling Stone review to come up with the analogy (which is a good one).

So far what I have seen has been enjoyable enough, but I am not far into it yet.

My wife watched it this past weekend. Some of the episodes were great, others were disturbing. The alternate history one was hilarious.

Actually, I read a couple reviews before I saw it, but I haven't read anything from Rolling Stone.

I've definitely seen Heavy Metal, though, and it's a very apt comparison.

So it's fairly clear to say that I'm into animation in general so I don't know why I haven't watched this yet. Castlevania was okay. Definitely skippable.

My avatar is actually Captain Levi from the anime Attack on Titan... (Attack on Titan is the absolute balls, also on Netflix, I invite anybody to give it a shot. It's like Lost with gigantic zombie monsters and a very arresting animation style, especially with they are using the 3D maneuver gear. This my one and only Attack on Titan PSA.)

Some of the episodes I watched last night are Twilight Zone/Black Mirror type ideas (Witness for example was honestly disturbing). The Yogurt one reminded me of a Pixar short. I've never seen Heavy Metal but I like this for the most part. My favorite that I've seen is Yogurt, Suits, or the Beyond the Aquila Rift one.
Definitely give Heavy Metal a shot, if you haven't seen it. The animation is dated, but it's worth it. It comes from a time when there really wasn't much else out there for animation not aimed at kids, outside of Ralph Bakshi.

You can skip Heavy Metal 2000, though.

I finished this last night. Really enjoyed the fact that they all told a concise story in a short period. I think the best was probably Beyond the Aquila Rift, worst was Zima Blue.

Yeah, I thought Zima Blue was a yawner, as well.

Interestingly enough, the stories that both Aquila and Zima are based on were written by the same guy.

Watched em all in a few days. Really enjoyed most all of them. Three Robots, Suits, Aquila, and Good Hunting were my favorites.

A lot of people comparing to Heavy Metal understandably but there's an older anime anthology called Robot Carnival that's actually A LOT like this as well, less sex and violence but similar adult feel for an animated sci-fi anthology. I think the modern animation in LD+R actually draws more from japanese anime than 70s western animation of Heavy Metal too. I love 70s/80s western animation but it's kind of a dead end in terms of an evolutionary chain.

Vulture ranked "The Witness" as the worst episode which is laughable and probably shameless click bate. It's an incredible work whether they scanned video footage or not. As a designer myself I trace over photos to create what become unique visuals all the time. Bakshi's Lord of the Rings movie did the same 40 years ago.

It's like the animatrix with different animation styles and post apocolytic vibes. The animation is incredible. Would recommend.
