Let’s be honest: the name CyHawk sucks. We can do better.

Part of our lack of identity is our insecurity forcing us to rebrand everything constantly.

The old CyHawk Trophy was silly, but look at the corporate pile of meh we have now. I don't know anyone that wouldn't want that goofy old bowling trophy back.

Keep the CyHawk name. It might be dumb, but everyone knows what it means.
Oh, piss off. We don't have problems when we try to rebrand things.

Settle down, bud. If you think Spencer Hall and Ryan Nanni are "coastal elites", then pretty much anyone that doesn't live in a trailer is a coastal elite.

I could probably make an argument that Ryan Nanni is a “costal elite” but no one should ever confuse Spencer Hall as one.

This thread needs a poll.

1. Corn Bowl
2. The Farmer Bowl
3. Tractor Bowl
4. Ag Bowl
5. Farm Bowl
6. Barnyard Brawl

Should be the Corn Bowl. Accept it people, (Corn, Ag, Farming) is what the state is known for. It's who/what the State of Iowa is. Don't take it as a slight, embrace it! Have pride in it.

Spray paint some old-school child barn toy gold and stick it on top of a wood plank and boom, you have a good trophy.

Pretty sure El Assico doesn't translate to anything per the Google machine, so it's not copyrighted. And to most non ISU or Hawk fans, the rivalry has been a doozer for a while. The games mean a lot to us, but they haven't exactly been entertaining to other fans.
For anyone not familiar with the origin of the ¡El Assico! name, it is a play on the name of one of the greatest rivalries in all of sport, Real Madrid vs Barcelona FC, ¡El Classico!. The ass part comes from the fact that historically CyHawk games are generally pretty ugly examples of football. Low scoring, bad offenses, weird turnovers and self inflicted wounds, and an outsized impact from special teams.

The general population won't adopt it, because they don't get it. For dedicated (and heavily online) college football fans, it is a term of endearment at this point. ¡El Assico! is appreciated for being a weird and quirky rivalry that plays in a generally lackluster part of the college football schedule.

Not to mention they praise it as one of the Top 5 games this weekend EVERY YEAR. It's not a slight at the schools at all.

I understand what El Classico is. I still perceive el assico as a slight.

TOE doesn't deserve any credit as an Ag school though. The "ANF" thing is bad enough, lets not lend them any additional credence.

Agreed. Though, if you look from an outsiders view... what do they think of regarding the State of Iowa?

Corn is everywhere. Corn Bowl. It's funny. It's simple. It sounds good. It's what the state is known for the most. It could be cool if it is marketed properly.

I am both of these things and I still don't care for it. I'm generally not a fan of allowing someone who has no vested interest in the rivalry to brand it, particularly when it's in mockery of the game - which is how it's used, whatever its origins were intended to be.
