Interesting, hadn't heard much about it until I went to Amazon's page this evening.

8.9" wi-fi only version for $299

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G isn't just the best tablet for the price, it's the best tablet. $499 now gets you a large-screen HD tablet with a stunning 8.9" display, exclusive Dolby audio, dual stereo speakers, the fastest Wi-Fi, ultra-fast 4G LTE wireless, plus our new unprecedented $49.99 one-year 4G data package. Customers save hundreds of dollars in the first year compared to other 4G tablets. Kindle Fire HD 8.9" is also available in aWi-Fi only model for $299.

Its interesting... but personally i prefer the standard android interface and having google's set of apps, so if i get a tablet it'll be something like a nexus 7.

Yes, nexus 7 is pretty sweet, can't argue with the price for performance. However, the top end kindle with the $49 YEARLY 4G data is tempting. Data must be getting cheap with all the shared programs, $10 to add a tablet and whatnot.

I was somewhat disappointed with the original fire I bought my dad. Works for him, but if I bought if for myself, I probably would have sold or returned it.

Be careful with that 4g... its only like.. 250mb a month. You can blow through that pretty quickly.

I'd prefer base google as well, not having the play store drives people to their store but hurts some sales I'd imagine. People completely plugged into the amazon ecosystem will probably look at it, but as far as books you can read those on anything.

Does Google plan on releasing a 10" tablet? If there were a hypothetical Nexus 9 or 10, I'd strongly consider it. I just don't think the 7" is a big enough jump up from my phone.
