KDSM Digital Signal

Is anyone else having trouble getting KDSM's new digital signal? After channel 13 quit transmitting analog, I had to rescan my TV's to get 13-1 again. I noticed the next day that I was no longer getting channel 17-1, so I rescanned one of my TV's again, and it didn't even find 17-1 anymore. The other TV says poor signal quality. I live in SE Ia, so I am a ways away, but have never had trouble before with 17. Just wondering if the signal is weaker now or if they are having trouble.

Thanks

All working for me as well.

Some stations actually lost signal coverage with their switch to full time digital. You may one of the unlucky few who fell out of the coverage range.

Must just be a weaker signal than. I live in the Ottumwa area and am not having any luck down here. Hope they boost the signal or no more 17 for me. For those not having trouble, how many miles are you from Des Moines? If any of you are in the 70 mile range, than maybe it has something to do with me, but since 13-1 works I doubt it.

Thanks.

We had issues with 17.1 and 13.1. Rescanned Wednesday and that seemed to fix both.

But, for whatever reason, 13.1 went out for a while Thursday night. It's back, didn't have to rescan.

I have heard that this could very well happen with the switch to digital.

Seems strange that I had no trouble with 17-1 while they were still transmitting both signals, but now I can't get it. If true this digital conversion is going to stink!!!

Go to DTV link on left side; at bottom of page:

(paraphrasing)

Q: Why does box work with other channels, not 17.1 and 17.2?

A: Some boxes need to be tuned to channel 16 first, then they will find 17.1 and 17.2.

(end paraphrase)

My guess is if this does not work, then distance is issue. I know that some people in Mason City area were able to get ch 7 from Waterloo on antenna before switch, but not after they switched their signal to digital.

Link: DTV Reception Maps

1) Type in your zip code

2) When the station list pops up on the left, click the station of interest

3) Click on the Gain/Loss Map link to see the expected coverage for the station...

You can also go to the site below, search on station call letters, and obtain probably more than you want to know. The service contour map shows broadcast coverage.

And my OTA receives the stations exactly like that site shows.

I don't know what brand you are using but I know that with some brands of converter boxes, it helps to remove the old channels first. Then rescan. Mine had no issues here in Ames.

How are most of you running the rescan on your DirecTV boxes? We've got the HR-20 and I literally just cleared our OTA settings and started over.

That is one of the silliest things that I have heard, type 16. Guess what, it worked on both TV's. Thanks. Another reason to love this board.

I think KDSM broadcasts on 16 ... or something like that.

Actually KDSM was in and out yesterday after I finally got them to work. Not coming in at all today, granted I haven't rotated the antenna, but it is pointing the Des moines direction. I just doesn't make sense to me that 17-1 and 17-2 came in great, until they stopped broadcasting analog. If they don't boost the signal, they will lose alot of their coverage it appears. Thanks to all that helped.
