Making a trip to KC for the first time next weekend for my birthday. There will be a group of 7 of us. Staying a block away from P&L.

Figured we'd get dinner (any suggestions for a steakhouse that won't break the bank?) then head to the bars Friday night.

Saturday we're hoping to hit up top golf then find a game watch for the UT game that night.

Anything else we absolutely have to do? And any alumni members know of a game watch for the UT game? Keep in mind all of us will be losing our KC virginity.

Game watch for Texas game is at Chicken N Pickle in North Kansas City. A $8 uber ride from downtown. Would suggest if the weather is nice to spend most of your Saturday there... a really great bar with plenty to do.

Not sure of a steakhouse that will be on your budget... its cliche but if your first time to KC theres plenty of BBQ to check out over steak... you can get a good steak anywhere.

Slice of pizza at Grinders, Wings at the Peanut, Q39, Antons has great steaks, but you will break the bank. As an Iowa State fan you have to go to Kellys in Westport. Then go to char bar for bbq. Port Fonda for Mexican food. If you guys live Dive bars I suggest Daves Stagecoach INN. Breweries during the day I would hit up are Cinderblock, Casual Animal, and Border Brewing Company.

These are all great. Thanks guys.

Where does the young crowd frequent for bars downtown? Those that are single will probably be on the prowl.

For BBQ I would recommend Jack Stack's. It is a little more expensive than some BBQ joints that are in a strip mall but in my opinion the food is excellent and the ambiance is nice without being "stuffy".

For steakhouse, I would recommend Great Plains Cattle Company in the Ameristar Casino. I like their steaks. If you're interested, you and your friends could also stay and gamble afterwards at the casino, but that is not something that would interest me.

If its your first time in KC the bar scene at Power and Light will be quite and experience, but you will also want to go to Westport. Crossroads is a good area to hang out during the day and eat and visit some breweries

Q39 is the only requirement.
Q39 is awesome. Also, check out Tom's Town Distillery. Tour is pretty fun.
If you are into drinking, and want an unique experience, check out Manifesto. It's a speakeasy that's pretty well hidden. You enter in an alley, and the whole thing is underground. You have to make reservations, and the bar itself is almost completely without lights. Really a cool place.

If you young gentlemen are looking for any culture, the national WWI museum is at Liberty Memorial and is a great museum. This year is also the 100 year anniversary of the end of WWI. They are lighting it up with a projection of poppies for nine nights in remembrance of the 9 million killed in the war.

Top Golf is really far away from anything cool FYI. Like, someone will have to stay soberish to drive.

No such thing as a SteakHouse that doesn't "break the bank" (dont @ me with Texas Roadhouse, place is awful) but there are several BBQ restaurants that aren't expensive.

If you go to Chicken n' Pickle, there is a distillery next door that does mostly Irish style spirits.

I prefer Swordfish Toms, Manifesto and Monarch for cocktail bars. Swordfish Toms is my favorite, but can only go in if you can find it, and the green light is lit. Always tons of people at Up/Down which is a good place for afternoon drinking and playing NBA Jam its in the CrossRoads which is the best place for day drinking. Go to Ale House in Westport if you want to get laid/get shot at.

Westport would be your best bet. I also like the Crossroads area as well (just south of downtown).

Also, seconding the Q39 BBQ. Best in town hands down.

Probably not much to add, but the BBQ is a must. Joe's, Q39 or Jack Stack is your best bet.

As far as going out, P&L is fun, I’d hit up Westport given you guys are in your early-mid 20s.

And you truly won’t have your KC cherry popped until you spend a Big 12 tournament weekend down here with the rest of your Cyclone brethren ;)

I think Q39 is the best BBQ in Kansas City. However, Char Bar in Westport is a close second. You will not be disappointed in either of those.
