I agree that football would be a much bigger achievment and would rather have football too. Teams can win the NCAA basketball tourney by mere fluke. ie.....NC State, Kansas, even George Mason was only two wins away!! But a NCAA championship in football would be no fluke and would mean mega notoriety, exposure, an dollars for our athletic program. A no brainer in my book.

Actually winning a football championship (although more prestigious) would probably be a bigger fluke: like the time weaker Nebraska tied Penn State, years of the split championships, the need to only win one bowl game, the politics of who gets to playt, the rukle changes of wheter the computers shopuld be counted, one day upsets like Texas over SC, and the poll manipulations as voted by writers/coaches. When you win the NCAA you have six tough opponents in a row to beat, maybe even in overtime setting.
At the same time, how many basketball teams not ranked in Top 10 have won the NCAA before? None come to mind except NCS. Yet they were a good team. We know the football teams will have to be ranked in the top 2 or 3 depending on how lucky they were in 11/12/13 games.
Okay, I switch to football just for the money. We can always use the money. And like someone said, it would hurt EIU future recruiting.
