Jimmy Sexton

I did not realize that Jimmy Sexton was Chizik's agent until someone told me this morning.

This guys client list has a lot of coaches that move around quite a bit...some pretty good coaches but guys that are always looking around. Saban, Tuberville, Jimbo Fisher, Will Muschamp, Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Houston Nutt, Kiffin (Monte and Lane), and Parcells to name some that are in his stable. I think a couple of guys mentioned on here as possible candidates for our new opening are also with him...Kevin Sumlin and Brian Schottenheimer.

Make no mistake...Sexton always has his feelers out for his guys. There is a reason why certain guys' names are always being brought up for job openings and it is because a guy like Sexton is always putting his clients names out there to both the press and anyone hiring for a decent job.

Personally, I would prefer we hire a guy that uses a different agent. Surprising as it might seem, the agent a HC is using in today's world has a big impact on what is going on relative to the coaching carousel.

Re: Jimmy Sexton

is he the Scott Boras of football coaching agents?

I think that is a great analogy.

He will probably get a lot of new clients off the Chizik deal...he can tell prospective clients that he has another client that went 5-19 and he was able to get his salary doubled at a higher profile gig.

Long ago, coaches negotiated for themselves...no longer. We hire a guy that has Sexton for an agent and he will be mentioned every time a spot at another BCS school opens up.

So maybe he was just trying to get Tubberville and Fulmer jobs and he used Chizik as a sacraficial lamb to create a job opening.

Fulmer was in Sexton's suite at the SEC Championship game. Maybe Tuberville was there too and the two of them want to go somewhere and coach together.

Re: Jimmy Sexton

Thought I would bump this one up in light of another Sexton thread appearing today.

Houston Nutt is a Sexton guy as well and got him a 3 million buyout last year and a job at Ole Miss 2 days later. The man pretty much calls his shots I think when it comes to coaching vacancies.

An agent like him reps a lot of coaches. I'm sure they don't all have the same personality, coaching styles, level of loyalty, they aren't all looking for the same thing in a coaching job.

I don't think Jamie is out interview agents right now to see which coaching stable he should start looking at.

This fact being known and if Fulmer does become our next head coach you don't think this bit of information will cause some extra clauses to be added to his contract?

I posted a thread about trying to stay away from a "Sexton guy" a few days ago.
He reminds me of Drew Rosenhaus.... A shady guy who's doin whatever he can to get more money for his clients and himself. Its gonna be kinda hard to stay away from him. I seen a post earlier that he represents like half of D1 coaches. Unless, you would be ok with Farley or someone like that?
