I agree with ctguytillidie. I saw Harbaugh carry his celebration into the handshake with a slap on the hand and a shove in the back on Schwartz more like he was celebrating with one of his own coaches. I've never seen anything like it before in a post game handshake. I'm not sure he meant any disrespect but it came accross that way. It was an unusual post game handshake to say the least and Harbaugh has apologized for it. I'm guessing Schwartz will accept the apology and apologize for his over-reaction too, but it will certainly add some future tension between these bright young coaches and their rising teams.

Yeah, I think that is a good way to look at it. Harbaugh was wrong I think, but it wasn't intentional, and of course Schwartz' reaction wasn't good either.

Difference between this game and the game today is there is no connection between the 9ers and Lions. The Lions hadn't won @ Minny for what 10 years? It was one more losing norm that Schwarts was able to overcome. Also Schwarts didn't carry his celebration all the way to the handshake with the opposing coach. Just a quick fist pump and it was done.

sorry, that's a crap excuse.

The niners have sucked recently, as well. Maybe not as bad as Detroit, but they haven't had a winning season in a decade. Harbaugh can't get excited when they beat an unbeaten team? There was obviously no malice in that handshake. It was enthusiastic, sure. But even so, was Schwartz's reaction in any way appropriate? Sore loser. Hope the League has a nice long talk with him about it.

It's not that hard to compose yourself and act like an NFL head coach when you go to shake the opponent coach's hand. You just beat the Lions in week 6, it's not like you won the damn super bowl. The league should tell Harbaugh if he's going to be an NFL head coach he should act like one.

So they have one bad game and they are suddenly the most overrated d-line? Half of that came on two carries by Gore. Also the 9ers have one of the best young o-lines in the NFL.

By your logic you were disappointed in Best on Monday night for his 40 yards?

I mean sure he had 160 but 120 of it came on 2 carries so it didn't really count... Right?

lol. give me a break.

The guy who acts like a psycho because someone shook his hand too hard is fine, but the excited coach who is happy with a tough win over a good team and celebrates by jumping up and down a few times is out of line.

I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that the bitter ones in this thread are Vikings, Bears, and Cowboys fans - you know, fans of teams that lost to the Lions this year...

I gotta say I can understand Schwartz being annoyed because Harbaugh gave him a pretty hard shove in the back from what I've seen. That being said, he way overreacted.

So your team just lost a hard fought game and the rookie opposing coach comes at you jumping up and down, pulling his shirt up, gives you a huge slap-handshake like he's on your team and you wouldn't be ****** about it? Not to mention it sure looked like something was said to Schwartz as well since there was a little delay in going after Harbaugh. I can guarantee there's 29 other NFL head coaches (maybe even 30, I don't know how well the Harbaughs get along) that would take Schwartz side. This is the first time Harbaugh's been a classless clown in that situation.

First one. You can join the second one if you want but I was mainly refering to the first one.

I agree, it doesn't look too good for the Birds next week. But, after moving to Detroit earlier this year and adopting the Lions and outright converting to the Tigers (although I have no intentions whatsoever of doing the same with the Red Wings or Pistons), I have no intention of joining that second group you refer to...

How does one act as an NFL coach? You can't show emotion or what?

Ironically, NBC showed Jon Harbaugh's postgame interview - outside of stating he has been in a number of fights with his brother, he did a pretty good job of ducking the question.

I think Harbaugh was a little animated towards Schwartz, but I don't think that warranted a fight.

Schwartz went after him like a lunatic, and in his press conference, he said there is protocol on language to follow.

I guess he doesn't think there is protocol to chasing the head coach and trying to fight/yell at him.

Eh.... you got me there. Best had a good game Monday and so did Gore today. That doesn't necessarily mean that the two defenses couldn't stop the runs though. I think that makes sense..

Obviously Harbaugh should have just vigorously pumped his fist and shouted "Mother****er!"

I knew where you were going originally; i was just being an ***.

Lions D line is good just seems to struggle on the quick hit runs right at them. If you want to run on the edge against them... good luck.

This is exactly the correct interpretation. Harbaugh was animated. Shook Schwartz's hand a little too hard. No malice. Just enthusiasm.

Schwartz's reaction was far less befitting of an NFL coach than Harbaugh's action that prompted it.
