I'm just not sure even if all of that is accurate, how it would affect the business in Des Moines at the various Jethros locations.

I thought Jethro's had to fight a lawsuit against (I'm assuming CBS holds the rights) a few years back just to keep the name. They obviously won so I'd assume Jethro's would be exempt from any further litigation. I suppose the original "Jethro" could sue CBS for infringement upon their contract?

Just change the name. He should have just done it six years or so ago when the first lawsuit came about. People don't spend **** tons of money at these restaurants because of the name.

Name recognition in any business is HUGE. It is naive to think otherwise IMO. You change one thing about the name, and Joe Six Pack suddenly is positive the wings now taste different. Consistency in the restaurant business is important.

100% agree. Jethro's as a name and brand in the city of Des Moines has tremendous value.

Yep, that's why Kentucky Fried Chicken had to declare bankruptcy after changing their name to KFC.

So CBS holds the rights to any restaurant named Jethro's because of a show they aired 40 years ago?

Keep the name, get rid of the stupid hillbilly logo. Easy as that imo. Can't tell me he trademarked the name Jethros, if that was the case they probably would have never named it that.

They likely hold the rights to the character, which is pretty obviously the basis for the "Jethro" in Jethro's BBQ.

Before reading the article I thought this had to do with the main guy from NCIS.

When did Max Baer jr. make his deal with CBS? If he hasn't started his Hillbilly empire by now I don't think he ever will.

This was my thought as well.

Although - another article suggests he maintains he has rights to the Jethro's character. That may be why he seems to be going after CBS and not Jethro's directly.

Don't go to the new bacon one in West Des Moines. They don't have waffle fries there.
